Here is the email I received yesterday from the LSU Ticket Office:
quote:

Dear LSU Bullpen Parking Pass Holder –

Please be aware that members of our staff will be scanning parking passes for the Bullpen Lot prior to tomorrow night’s game.

As you arrive to the Bullpen Lot, we ask that you please have your pass readily available for our staff to scan your pass as you enter the lot.

This will begin a test run of several games where we will begin to work on the implementation of the scanning of parking passes as fans drive into the lot. As we continue to work out the process of scanning, we ask fans to cooperate with us.

This will just be a testing period to see if the scanning of passes will affect the traffic flow into the lots as well as on Gourrier. If we see that it is impeding the traffic flow, we will discontinue the scanning test and allow fans to freely flow into the lot by showing their pass as we have been doing.

We thank you for your support and we thank you for working with us. Thank you and Geaux Tigers!
Here is my reply to their email I sent to them:
quote:

Dumbest idea.........EVER!

The traffic already backs up across Nicholson Dr from the entrance to the Bull Pen lot when the parking lot attendant is only waving the cars into the lot.

Does someone actually think stopping each car to scan a parking pass will NOT negatively affect the traffic flow?

This sounds like something Texas A&M would implement......
The SLU game starts tonight at 6:30 PM.

I suggest anyone who uses the Bull Pen lot or has to drive past the Bull Pen lot entrance to get to their lot further down Gourrier, including the free lot past the stadium, should leave for the game 30 minutes earlier to make it for first pitch.

/end rant

The parking for baseball is becoming ridiculous.
I can't believe they are charging $10 a game for the grass lot by the Golf Course. That's more than the game ticket.
What a joke?

Anything to make money.

Scanning parking will be a nightmare. Better get to SEC Friday games really early

Let me go out on a limb here and say yes it will affect traffic flow.

Here is their response to my email which I received about 45 minutes ago: (the bolding and underlining are mine.)
quote:

As it states in the email we will be monitoring traffic and if it becomes an issue we will scrap the test and go back through the process of allowing fans to show their passes as they come through the lot as normal.

This is just a test run that we are hoping if it works we will be able to provide fans more options with their parking passes.

If we are able to come up with a plan for scanning we hope that this will be able to provide options in the future for fans to be able to electronically forward parking permits on game by game basis similar to what is allowed for tickets as well as offer print at home options for Regional/Super Regional games we host.

It is just a trial run and the parking manager will be there to monitor and again, if it causes more traffic, we will discontinue the scanning process.
So they are doing it so they can either sell more parking permits last minute or permit holders can sell their parking permit on StubHub and LSU gets a cut of the re-sale revenue....

should have known. The only way this has a chance of working is if they built an an entire lane from the railroad to the bullpen lot entrance strictly for bullpen lot entrance.

It's freaking baseball. All parking should be free.
Half the time the lots are half empty because those fans never show up.

You only need to check during regional play when it's true sellouts.

Whoa! Don't lump all of us parking permit holders together as being permanent no-shows.

I've missed one home game in the last 6 seasons and that was because I got food poisoning at the Saturday night game from eating a rancid jalapeno pepper (just one but one was enough) on my nachos.

I still had a case of the Thunder Down Under by the noon game time on Sunday.

But your point is valid. The paved lots are often less than half full, especially for mid-week games. I suspect this is part of the reason the Ticket Office wants to be able to sell or be able to re-sell via StubHub parking permits on game day and get a few dollars more in their cash register.

But they shouldn't couch their diabolical idea by saying "if it affects traffic flow we'll stop." OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO AFFECT TRAFFIC FLOW!!!

ETA: but, like the football parking "study" they are going to test this on midweek games and think that those results are typical.

Yep, got mine as well.

It is obvious that no one making traffic/parking decisions actually goes to the games. If they did then they see what a clusterfrick it is.

If they're looking for ways to improve the fan experience then I've got a few suggestions for them:

- build a pedestrian bridge across Nicholson and ticket people for jaywalking if they don't use it
- construct a dedicated right-turn lane from Nicholson onto Gourrier
- add an entrance/exit for the bullpen lot off of Nicholson
- expand Gourrier by two lanes; use the two right lanes if you're parking at the stadium, use the left two if you're parking at the golf course or in the heyfield lot
- actually implement contraflow after the game (using both lanes through the traffic light, not just up to it like they do most of the time... which is really fricking stupid)
- force people exiting lots to drive away from the stadium (bullpen, champions, & golf lots drive east towards Nicholson; home run, HoF, & heyfield drive west towards River Rd.)
- run those ticket scalpers off, they are only causing more traffic problems where they are

Three of those wouldn't cost them anything to implement.

Can you come from river rd? If so, take that. But not sure if it connects.

It really is amazing to think some of the people who make these decisions have no idea how the world works.

You are essentially going to be stopping a 1 lane road every time someone needs to enter the lot to scan a ticket. If someone is in the wrong lot the parking police will then stop traffic to have that person get back on the road and continue.

At the light you have 3 lanes merging into Gourrier as the possibility of a train passing through and then they want to have someone scan a ticket to enter a lot with no turn lane, it's going to be a great test.

Me and my buddies were actually talking about a bridge over Nicholson a few weeks back. Would make so much sense for baseball and football season.

Did they actually scan the parking passes last night at the Bullpen lot? Was it the cluster we expected? I got there about 45 minutes early, so there was no traffic when I passed by.

They didn't scan passes at the Hall of Fame lot; however, the attendant looked a little closer than he normally does (he actually got off his chair).

Yes, they were scanning the parking passes in the Bull Pen lot.

I usually get to my seat just before the national anthem is performed.

Last night I left my house 15 minutes earlier than usual because I knew the scanning would slow down traffic and I still missed the top of the first inning.
