I agree with making it a 7 inning game if the start of the getaway game is delayed for some reason. But in this case the game is going to start at the same time it normally would. Keep it at 9.

If the game on Thursday had went a little longer (at least 5 innings), would it had still been a shorter second game today?

Yes. I remember a couple years ago against A&M we only had to play like 1 inning on a sunday morning. They still made the 2nd game 7 innings (even though it went an extra).
ETA: It was 2013 and the Saturday game was suspended after 6 innings. They had to play 3 innings early in the morning and the Sunday game started on time, but was still 7 innings.

That's why I don't understand why they were so quick to move the game to Saturday. Should have at least tried to play yesterday to avoid the 7 inning rule

If I had to make my best guess, the radar looked like crap when they scheduled it and then cleared up after the fact. Those teams absolutely hate waiting through a delay. Either that, or both teams figured by playing 2 less innings, you're using 2 less innings of pitching heading into Hoover and the important part of the season.
