SIAP- Pretty good write-up with the views of each team from opposing coaches who have played against the teams.

LSU vs. OU

quote:

“Chris Cotton is good, man. There’s just something about him. His pitches are good, but that dude should not be closing—you shouldn’t have a mid-80s lefty closing, you wouldn’t think. But his numbers are great. It’s three pitches, solid, nothing special—and he just gets them out."

quote:

“I think what Bregman’s done this year is beyond special. What he’s done offensively and defensively, how consistent he’s been, and he’s hitting in the middle of the order for a great team. It’s not like he’s hitting in the 9-hole. Opposing pitchers are absolutely bearing down on him, and it doesn’t matter. Gosh, he is special. And I know we use that term too often, but man, he is special. He’ll wear out both gaps, he’ll hit fastballs, he’ll hit breaking balls. As a hitter, he’s just very under control, looks like he sees the ball well. A lot of young guys look jumpy, but he doesn’t. There’s no way this kid’s a freshman, there’s no way."

That quote about Cotton says it all.

Other than Gray, the ou team doesn't sound as good/or any better than the "average" SEC opponent. I mean LSU plays this level of competition every weekend, this isn't the big 12. Everybody talks about how great Gray is & all that but I think Nola has the advantage because he has the lineup advantage. If Nola can hold his own on the mound, & our hitters can be patient & scratch a run or two across, I don't see ou's lineup being able to come from behind against Nola on a Friday night with the crowd.

No doubt, Oklahoma is not a great team. They had a mediocre Big 12 season, and the Big 12 had a down year. Oklahoma lost a ton of series.

However, when you have one of the top pitchers in college baseball, you have a chance in a three game series. In a seven game series, you'd pick LSU to prevail everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. But in a short, one weekend series, if Gray can win his game Oklahoma will have a chance.

Great article....If we win with Nola on Friday..it's over. If we lose on Friday....heck, it's still over. We don't lose 2 at home to these guys.

I know, I thought that was great. Bregman is just a boss. Every time he steps to the plate, opposing pitchers can just tell that he has never, and will never, have a single frick to give.

They just have five legit guys in their lineup that can hit a double or triple. And they think that they’re supposed to win because they’re wearing that jersey.

This is truth.

Bottom line: LSU is a better all-around team than OU. What I've said all year, though, is that if we could get through the regionals, we'd have a shot at Omaha because of our starting pitching. Are we favored? No. But there's a reason we're playing prime time all weekend, and it's not because ESPN thinks the series is going to be a blow out.

That said, if it's a blow out, that's not good news for OU at all.
