Watched the replay few hours ago - I noticed the ref making the call said "the foul occured in the end zone; by rule the ball will be placed on the 2 yard-line"...
However, replay clearly shows the DB grabs him/trips him up at about the 5, WR stumbles forward and falls INTO the EZ, but wasn't touched past the goal-line. I'm surprised no-one has pointed this out - they were just inside the 10; half the distance to the goal puts Clemson needing almost 5yds, not just 2, and completely changes the dynamics of the last play call (that beautiful pick play doesn't work from 5 yds out).
Just trying to give Bama fans something else to complain about and make more excuses with.

I don't think it would have changed the play call. It actually could have been a positive. The closer you are to the goal line, the less room you have to make a play in the air.
Good catch though. I didn't notice that myself.

Maybe its like in basketball where initial contact occurs before the shot but continues into the shot so they call it a shooting foul anyway. Even when sometimes the contact doesnt continue into the shot but the player shoots the ball right after anyway. Idk without a replay gif, but thats awesome

"When the the ball is snapped on or inside the Team B 17 yard line and outside the Team B two-yard line, and the spot of the foul is on or inside the two-yard line, the penalty from the previous spot shall place the ball at the two-yard line, first down (A.R. 7-3-8-XIV)."
They got it right.

After all the terrible calls that went Bama's way over the years, glad one finally bit them in the arse in the biggest way possible.

If the spot of the foul was at the 5, then they got it wrong. I don't know the spot of the foul, but the OP is saying 5 yard line.

I saw that too...Was wandering where the call was determined to be..The ball was landing in the back of the endzone, but the contact was around 3 yrd line...It was an interesting call, for sure..
