Bama gameplaning against certain defensive players?

So I’ve been thinking about who I would attack on our defense if I was Lane Kiffin, and I was thinking Ricky Jefferson and Dwayne Thomas. Well, I “stumbled” upon this article over at al.com about which LSU players are being mimicked by the pachyderm scout team:

Underneath an overcast sky, Alabama went through its first practice in advance of Saturday's matchup with LSU on Monday afternoon.
Here are notes from the portion of Monday's practice open to the media:
— Running backs Ronnie Clark and Derrick Gore were two of the scout team players responsible for mimicking LSU star running back Leonard Fournette.
— Freshman safety Shawn Burgess-Becker was playing LSU safety Rickey Jefferson.
— Wide receivers Deionte Thompson and Derek Kief were playing Tigers wide receiver Malachi Dupre.
— Running back Xavian Marks wore the number of LSU wide receiver Trey Quinn.
— Defensive back Blaine Anderson played Tigers starting cornerback Dwayne Thomas.

I certainly would expect them to game plan against our offensive weapons, however I found it interesting that they specifically designated two of our most exploited defensive players. Or, maybe they had the whole LSU defense out there and the writer just happened to single out those two particular guys?
I wouldn’t mind seeing more Corey Thompson in the place of Jefferson. He’s bigger, more physical, and perhaps faster (mom was an Olympic level sprinter). That is, if he hasn’t truly lost a step after his surgery (which would be sad in this day in age). Thompson started the last time we played in Tuscaloosa so it’s not like he hasn’t been there before. I’m partial to a big physical safety, especially against UA-T. Just my armchair observations…I trust in Steele so far though!

solid first post.
I don't think that they're game planning around certain guys, but trying to simulate certain players performances in practice so they can see how their defense gang-takles or how quickly they fly to the ball.
Odd that they would have a guy mimick trey quinn though. I like the kid, but he hasn't don't much/if anything at all the whole season.

Not worried about what scout team guys do to mimic LSU players and Bama should not be worried about the reverse as well.

Trey is the perfect person to blow up in a game like this. Also watch out for Tyron Johnson. The middle of the field will be wide open.

Ain't no body mimicking Leonard Fournette

I'm sure they've noticed that the numbers are close 100% on running the ball out of a 2 WR set that includes Quinn and Diarse as the WRs.

I think his point was that its interesting that when Bama's offense is practicing this week their coaches have decided that it is important for their players to know where Ricky Jefferson and Dwayne Thomas are lined up (as opposed to White, Toliver and Adams, for instance).

And pretty much every time Trey Quinn is in the game and goes in motion across the formation the play involves a pass to him.

He's got a bone to pick with Bama from last year.

Jefferson and Thomas have been the weakest secondary players this year. Makes sense they would have their scout team mimic things they been seeing these two players do on film. Curious, Bama has no film from this year on the starting secondary they will probably see saturday. I think having White and Mills together for the first time this year could be big for the Tigers.

because those are the guys the QB has to read, they know what the corners are going to be doing

They want to identify where Ricky Jefferson and Dwayne Thomas are during the defensive alignment process. They are doing this cc they think it's a tell as to which package LSU is , to know which hot play to run to attach them specifically , or both. My guess is to attack them. Most good OCs will try to exploit a weakness or exert pressure on a strength in hoping that it will break. If I were Alabama, I would run right at Key when he is in the game , run play action on seem routes and force Beckwith or Jefferson to cover their awesome tightend, throw damn near any pass at D Thomas, but specially play action with a double move and run a lot of wide running plays and roll outs early to force Neal, Godchaux and Lavoutuee to expend energy early chasing the ball.

Don't be surprised if Kiffen goes up tempo when Key is on the field. They will do so so they can run at him. Kiffen is a good play designer and overall strategy guy, he just gets away from running the ball at times and relies to heavily in the QB at the end of a close game. Thought to put that kind of pressure on a college QB. Worked out well last year bc he had a mobile QB who could use his feet to add a dimension to an otherwise busted play (if the routes were covered). No such luxury this year. If we control the TE, the Tigers will hold Alabama to less than 300 total yards. Someone has to jam that big SOB at the line and the LB/Safety or Nickle has to cover and tackle.

Trey is in for a lot of plays even if he doesn't have the receptions to show for it. There are probably some formations with Quinn that tip the play and that's what they could be gameplanning for

Well, LSU has to get rid of tendencies this week!!! So does Bama....
The first series of EVERY LSU vs Bama game where Bama has the ball, Bama's first play is a naked bootleg with a pass to the tightend out in the flat ...........
Cam Cameron has to eliminate tendencies......
I just hope our secondary figures out what to do with all the freaking "rub routes" aka "wide receiver pick" that Bama likes to run......especially Kiffin.....his combo routes packages are pretty good imho.....

Pretty much sums up what I would do if were Bama!!!
