Bama fan observation of AU Vs. LSU - Clock issue

Yes. I'm a Bama fan. So that means I hate Auburn worse than anything. So much so that I opened an account because something I saw bothered me so badly, I wanted to chat about it here.
I noticed Saturday night that your QB hit your WR for about an 8 yd pass on a play that was snapped at 1:30. The WR went out of bounds. The whistle blew AFTER the player went out.
At that point, the ref ran up & wound the clock. It never stopped. If I recall, about 17 seconds ran off the clock before the next snap. 17 seconds that would have proved to be invaluable at the end.
Now... This play is still viewable on WatchEspn. I have been obsessed with this call since it happened. Why was the clock never stopped for the receiver stepping out? The whistle was clearly blown after he stepped out.
I have not been able to find any discussion about this play, so I came here. If this was a refereeing error it not only cost y'all a number of seconds... It cost you the game & your coach his job.
If anyone has seen or will check out this play, I'd appreciate your input. I'm an avid football fan & unless I'm missing something, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Thanks! I look forward to some replies & input.

You'll come to regret this decision.

I believe you have to go out of bounds with forward progress to stop the clock, if you're hit and forward progress is stopped and you go out of bounds clock wont stop.

correct. but we never get the inbounds calls versus bama (Peterson divit in 2009) and out of bounds versus auburn.

Literally every game we get a "why didn't the clock stop when he went out of bounds with 12 minutes left." This isn't as bad.

On. That was my first feeling as well. But after watching & rewatching it, that was a bit debatable as he appeared to shake loose of the defender's grasp and ran sideways to the sidelines. And the whistle never blew until after he went out. Still puzzles me a little. But I also see the play through Crimson glasses. :-:

Auburn got home cooking the whole game. On the last play when we scored. The clock started before the ref blew the whistle to signal the start of the clock. Go back and watch that.

In the ref's bad judgement, he felt the receiver's forward progress was stopped prior to his going out of bounds. You see this all the time now- as if they want to do anything that will shorten the game. Never mind that whistle wasn't blown until he was out of bounds. Most important thing is to keep the clock running whenever possible.

LSU has a history of getting cheated by refs at Auburn. It is almost expected. Just terrible that it was he whole game, not just a couple calls this time!

As a Bama fan the loss that got Miles fired should concern you......Incompetence was fired. I'm glad Auburn won. They still have Gus, and still suck.

Well, we always get screwed by the refs when we cross the MS state line...bad spots for us, great spots for da barners...never ending story...but, at least something good came out of that loss...even when gimps come to BR , we get the shaft from the zebras...guess, that Birmingham thing is working real well for all of you gumps...

I thought it was strange the other ref called forward progress and kept the clock going.
