Definitely a loss, but injuries mounted for Dan Voltz (missed several games in 2015, too). Really feel for the kid, but happy to see he's staying in a coaching capacity.

Think you can expect Jon Dietzen (R. Fr), a former four-star, to step-in for Dan Voltz.

quote:

Evan Flood ?@Evan_Flood Aug 18
#Badgers senior OL Dan Voltz on Jon Dietzen: "He's already one of the best we've got. He's everything you expect out of a Wisconsin OL."

ETA: just so everyone knows, Dan Voltz was NOT going to start at Center for the Badgers this year. He moved to Guard. Michael Deiter, arguably Wisconsin's best OL, started 13 games last year, including several at Center, and the staff decided to keep him there.

Prayers sent to whoever his backup is at center, they have to deal with Travonte Valentine.

Dan Voltz wasn't going to start at Center this season... He moved to Guard.

Michael Deiter was always going to be Wisconsin's starting Center in 2016 after starting 13 games (7 at Guard, 6 at Center) in 2015.

One thing you can count from Wisconsin is having good OL play.

There's been three-star OL, and walk-ons, for as long as I can remember. They seem to fare pretty well...

Do you think Wisconsin will be able to run the ball vs LSU's front 7? I don't know anything about their OL

Young, but quickly established himself as one of the better interior linemen in the B1G as a RS Freshman.

Even with Dan Voltz now retired from football, Wisconsin returns four offensive linemen that all started several games in 2015. They were RS Freshmen, too, so they'll be a year-older.

Certainly helps that they'll be blocking for a natural running back (Corey Clement) in 2016, and not a converted defensive back and converted linebacker.

Not sure how the unit fares against LSU, but there aren't many prouder traditions than Wisconsin's OL.

Sucks for him. Hate to see kids put so much effort into their dream and then not get to enjoy the payoff.

Mike Lucas looks like he'd be on a 70's holiday sing-along.
