Away team sacrificing a home game due to natural disaster in opposing stadium

Serious question, has this ever happened in the history of sports?

The fact that this is being so casually thrown out as a "solution" is mind boggling.

Hurricane hits Florida:
LSU loses one football game, one home football game

Florida loses one football game

How does this make any sense? And what kind of precedent does that set?

ETA: I dont mind the Arkansas game solution as much, but it's crazy how much LSU has to sacrifice for UFs problem. In every other instance I can think of, the burden (or sacrifice) always comes from the team that was hit.

No what's he's saying is the away team having to sacrifice a home game in order to accommodate the home team.

I know that's why I edited. I read it too quickly.

Doubt that it's happened before.

All this so Florida did not have to play LSU when they had a lot of injuries.

I don't think it has ever happened.

I can understand the concept being floated currently, that an SEC game is more important to play than an OOC game. But to me, that's an irrelevant distraction being pushed by the conference, to take the focus away from the bullshite that occurred this weekend.

It's on Florida to make this right, not on LSU. It was their home game, their responsibility to host the event. They failed, and the SEC is covering for them instead of calling them out.

Yes but their conference didnt make other teams in the conference sacrifice their seasons or any games because of Tulane's circumstances.

Of course your premise is completely and totally different than the current LSU vs UF debacle??? Not really sure why you even posted this little nugget of info?

I've been looking forward to my 2 Alma maters playing each other. South Alabama started their football team when I was graduating

The South Alabama game is going to be my kids' first trip to Tiger Stadium for an LSU game (we live in DC area). Unless the incompetence continues.

Not only has it never happened, as far as I know, but the option that Florida completely refused has happened numerous times.

That's what's so mind boggling.

It would be much more understandable if neither had happened, but there is indeed a precedent, and for some reason it was totally ignored in this situation.

No offense, but that's the opposite of what we're discussing in this thread. Tulane is the Florida in this scenario

Totally agree. The burden is on the host team. This disaster happened/was supposed to happen to them. Whenever LSU or South Carolina were host teams during a disaster, they stepped up, sacrificed and did the right thing.

UForfeit didn't do any of this - and in my opinion deserve NO sympathy! Why should other teams sacrifice when it was their burden to bear? In any other business UForfeit would be solely responsible for rectifying the situation. Since it's too late for the game to be played without inconveniencing other teams, then UForfeit should be disgraced, charged with a loss and themselves suffer any financial burden, along with the SEC.

As for the SEC, Sankey failed LSU and the rest of the conference with his siding with Foley. He is liable and should be fired! For putting LSU in the position of an uncaring villain, the SEC should be begging our pardon and asking what they can do to repair our relationship.

I just really don't think it's ever happened in any sport of any league ever.

I'd love to know if I'm wrong

This is my point of contention. I read all over the SECrant about Alleva didn't offer Monday or LSU should have done this . . .

It's the responsibility of the host team to offer solutions and UF offered nothing. Does anyone have any quote to the contrary that Foley offered a single alternative?
