Athletic Director / Media / Sports Agents - Who is to BLAME?

Hello all,
With Thanksgiving and the (annual) Michigan vs. Ohio State arse kicking, I haven't closely followed the Les Miles ordeal too much. I saw a couple of segments on ESPN's Sports Center and College Gameday. Can someone give me a barebones synopsis of what happened?
From what I know, ESPN's Joe Schad essentially reported that the A&M game would be Miles last and he wouldn't be retained for the bowl game. Les Miles walked on the field during pregame and lifted his iconic white hat in salute. After Les and LSU "secured victory" ( ) he was carried off the field. EVERYONE thought that was it for him. Then, ESPN cuts to an announcement by the LSU Athletic Director. Naturally, ESPN's live feed cuts out showing just how big of schmucks they are. Now I have found out that Miles isn't fired.
Basically, my questions are...
(1) What the hell happened with this....arrant fiasco, and
(2) Who is to blame for it all and why? The LSU Athletic Director? The media and ESPN as they apparently took an empty story and ran with it.
Thanks all!

The AD leaked a story that Miles was being fired. He let the story run wild in the media while trying to secure a deal for Jimbo Fisher, which he thought he had done. Fisher and his agent Sexton played the AD and either never agreed to a deal or backed out. Thus, the AD was not able to deliver the golden egg in the end. The AD cant be blamed for trying to get Fisher, but his handling of it was all wrong, very wrong.

Gotcha. Thanks a lot for clearing it up!

Politics pure and simple. LSU was worried that requesting money for a budget strapped University wouldn't go over well with a 15 million dollar buy out of a coach everyone "loves".
That's why King Alexander showed up last night.

Story is, our AD is a pussy, our state is run by boozed up slave money degenerates, and our university president is a second rate clown. That's all you need to know.

Care to expound a little more?

blame for what?
it seems many LSU fans support the HC and LSU didn't replace him. why should blame be cast. nothing happened.
if anything the LSU brand was strengthened last night with the "miles love fest" clearly showing much fan support and much player support.
it appears that message boards don't really represent a fan base.

He basically comes from a family of con artists. He conned his way into LSU from a directional school in CA (Long Beach State). He is constantly blathering about his close relationships with US congresspeople, in spite of the fact he has consistently bungled every PR situation he has come into contact with. This fiasco has his fingerprints all over it

Well, your beloved university was getting ripped to shreds by national analysts across the nation for something that inevitably didn't happen. Your coach gave "one last bow" and was carried off the field only to have a pledge of full support by the Athletic Director. I assume that isn't the norm for LSU home games.
Plus, this fiasco either created or intensified a toxic relationship between the Athletic Department and the University's major money maker.

Miles found out he was going to stay on as head coach with the rest of us. It's absolutely unconscionable and inexcusable.

I mean, he was told before the Alleva press conference.

Some random person in Alleva's office, or someone on the BOS, or a booster is not the same as Joe Alleva.
If you think the athletic director himself was leaking information to the media, then I don't know what to tell you.

Sports forums, much like call in radio shows, are mainly driven by the unhappy bout something folks unless a NC is won.
Emotions normally carry the day here, but then it is called the "Rant" for a reason.

or boosters.
And I'd say there's a difference between the man himself and someone in the department, yes.
