I heard condon talking about him Friday. Football player from the 70's. Supposed to be a tough mf. Any stories? Anybody know him?

from the 60's.

a real badass from what i've heard.

of course unless you witnessed it you'd have never known it then because that kind of thing didn't make it to the news.

times have changed.

There's a great story that I read about him. He was getting married while he was at LSU, and there was a team "tradition" that no player could get married with his pubic hair intact. So a group of about 10 of his teammates gathered outside his dorm room the day before the wedding w/ the intent of holding him down and shaving his privates. They burst in on him and found him sitting calmly on a chair in the middle of the room. He looked at them and said: "I know why you're here and I won't put up a fight...I'll let you do what you came to do. But I want you all to know this...I see every face in this room. And at some point in the future, I WILL get all of you, one at a time."

Art Cantrelle got married the next day with all of his pubic hair intact.

It was the very late 60's-early 70's, Guys. He was tough as nails. I was in the old Keg on Highland Road. It was about 1971-72. Packed house. I did not see how the fight started and luckily I was on the other side of the place. Art took on three like they were nothing. When the fight first started, Management called BR Police at the sub-station just down the street(at the time; not sure if its still there). The BRPD started coming in with night sticks, etc. Art was mowing them down, slinging cops off his back. I got the hell out there but he was unstoppable for quite some time!

I've heard that Art Cantrell's real name is Bill Brasky. Don't know if it's true or not.

I had ended my athletic career @ LSU a few years earlier along w/ a good friend . Most sane people stayed clear of Cantrell because he was truly a " mad dog " !!! Unfortunately my friend was managing The Keg when that fight took place and I was there . He was involved in many vicious altercations and I think this was the one that he bit a guy so hard he took a lot of flesh. Bad night ! Nothing about his behavior that should be glamourized !! Today he would be in the news , off the team , out of school and probably in jail .

Make no mistake Art was a Bad dude, Darn good football player but someone you did not want to
muck with. He would clean your plow in a heartbeat
if you screwed with him. Best I remember he had
huge Popeye arms.

Did Condon say where Cantrelle is now? I always thought he would do time in Angola one day but I have not heard anything about him since his playing days were over.

Russian ,
There is a poster on the rant from the Miss. gulfcoast that either sees him or is friends w/him ! Think he said that Cantrell works down there for a casino . If my memory serves me correctly , I belive he had finished his high school career at St. Stanislaus (sp) in Bay St. Louis .

I was drinking with a friend at a bar in Biloxi in the early 80s.

A guy walked in and asked the bartender if a certain guy had been in there lately.

The bartender said no, he hadn't seen him around.

So, the guy picked up a quarter off the bar and squeezed it with both fists.

He then dropped the quarter back onto the bar where it wobbled in place with a distinct bend in it.

He then told the bartender to tell the guy to give him that quarter and tell him Art Cantrell was looking for him. He then smiled before he turned and walked out of the place.

My friend who is from Biloxi laughed and said that he wouldn't want to be in that fellow's shoes when Cantrell caught up with him.

Evidently Cantrell was shrimping at the time, but I have no idea what he is doing now.

Nope, he finished his high school at Biloxi High. He is by far the baddest in the land. I've watched him ever since he came to Biloxi, which is where he still lives, and can tell you that everyone on the coast that knows anything will agree with me. He has the strongest grip you can imagine, and can literally break your hand shaking hands. The trick is not to squeeze too hard, or he'll bring you to your knees. He plays alot of golf these days, and has done everything from booking to shrimping. He is fun to hang with and is a great friend. He has a strong cajun accent, and you better watch out if he starts talking really fast, cause you're about to get dropped. His nickname is Tutu.

People call him that.....I mean, to his face?

Thanks for the info.

AC has to be in his mid-fifties now so he's no Spring chicken. (Sorry, Chicken, it's just an expression!) He was a tough guy to bring down and more than once when he was tackled, it pi**ed him off just to be brought down. I agree with the earlier poster that he probably would not last on the team today. But he was a good one in his time. Here's to Tutu!

You can only call him that if you're good friends with him. He is either 59 or 60, but is still rock hard. He also talks more shite to the ladies than you have ever heard.

I'm pretty sure Condon said he's got a security gig at some casino on the Gulf Coast, which would make sense.

Thanks for the heads up on that! I think I'll just call him, "Mr. Cantrell" if I ever meet him.

There's GOT to be a story behind how he got that nickname.
