We have the top 5 coaches at each position
DB
DL
LB
With three great minds and different philosophies to sort things out
personally I'm hesitant on Steele but i think that those three minds put together will lead us to a top 5 defense in the conference and Top 20 in the nation. With an increases empashis on pressure and turnovers i see us giving up big plays but making bigger plays!

I just hope that this won't turn into another co-defensive coordinator type thing like in 2008

I not concerned about anything!

Why would it turn into that? 1. We don't have co defensive coordinators and 2. Steele had a really good track record (top 25 defenses) in 2 out of 3 years at clemson. If he coaches at the level this year as he did in his first year at Clemson we'll have a top 10 defense, I'm not worried at all

He has far more elite talent to work with here as well.

Not worried. LSU got rid of two malcontents on Defense in Haley & Chavis. The time had come for both to get out of BR. We replaced both with good coaches who want to be hare and are far better recruiters. LSU is far better off.

I like the way things are looking honestly. loved the chief move and the new hires, we may give up a few big plays like the OP said, but I think we fall into form pretty soon. Possibly around the Miss State game.

Of all the things that concern me about this season, defense is among the very bottom. The only weakness this team has from personnel groups to experience to talent to coaching staff is the quarterback position.

None of those coaches have eligibility.

Yeah, I don't see the worry on Defense, it should be solid, with experienced interior D-line, that should be a lot better than last year. The linebackers should be better, as well, with a more experienced MLB, and speed on the edges. No one is worried about the DB's. The DE's are the question, and there's talent there, but little experience. So worries should be DE play and LB depth, as I see it..

Just cautious. DE's are the only concern I have on the field. Steele is an unknown to me. That much talent, he should be ok.
I've always felt that when you are solid front to back up the middle, you will be good. DT's, MLB and Safeties are all really good.

Why do people keep mentioning LB depth? We're two deep at every position with guys in at least their third year (except one second year guy in D. Alexander). Next year we'll have LB depth issues, with most of the backups being first year guys, but this year we're golden.

I'm in the cautious bunch. I just don't know enough about Steele and haven't been able to go back and watch any games he's called. I do have to believe that as a coach, he's pumped up about the talent he getting to work with now.
DE is a bit of a concern. Not from the talent standpoint, but experience. Hopefully they pick it up quickly and fall into place.

We had the number 1 defense in the SEC last year. You really think we may drop down below top 5?
Posted on 7/8/15 at 10:11 am to UnAnon
I'm way more concerned with completing passes more than 5yds downfield.

Saban hired Steele twice. He's gonna be an awesome addition as DC. Our defense has been good and last year finished best in the sec in total defense, but we weren't dominant like we have been. I think we're beginning to return to the days of playing nasty, dominant defense

Glad he's gone.
