Are LSU fans unreasonable or do they have the right expectations?

It seems in the big 3 LSU has a win or it wasn't worth it mentality.
Several know a good season even if it falls short of the ultimate goal but they still complain.

Should LSU be disappointed when they fall short of a National Championship or is a 50 win season in baseball, NCAA tourney appearence, bowl game good enough for fans?

If LSU wentry 0-2 in Omaha, 12-1 in football (losing playoff,) and out in first round of march madness is that a good year or bad year?

For me it is both, I would be proud of accomplishments of the team but would feel they fell short. Especially football and baseball where we recruit the best of the best and should realistically have a bottom line of the playoffs.

People lose sight that this these are games played by humans. They either take them too seriously, or expect everyone to perform perfectly.

They are one in the same really...

You say ranted like it is a bad thing, really it is just an LSU fan that has a different opinion/expectations than yourself.

I don't think it's black and white.

It's more of where a program stands and is heading IMO.
Football just lost 5 games and finished unranked.
Basketball is trending up and made the NCAAT.
Baseball had a very good season, but fell short again in Omaha. The issue with that is it seems to be a recurring theme for baseball. 1 win in Omaha since 2009. Regional loss to Houston, SR loss to Stony Brook.

Football and baseball have the highest expectations because of the recent success (15 years FB; 25+ years baseball).

It really isn't black and white, but for many on this board it is. If you are critical you are not really a tiger fan. If you are overly positive then you are delusional.

Agree drizztiger. I want LSU to win every game but expect more from the Football and Baseball teams at this point than the Basketball team. I've never been a NC or bust type of guy and my expectations of the teams have varied over the years.

For football I am a NC game or bust type... baseball I just want to make it last 4, and basketball the round of 32

Depends on the circumstances.

LSU should never be near 8-5 in football and very well should be able to develop a decent qb with the coaching we have.

If you are overly positive, you are an OM fan (delusional).
LSU has very high expectations. Championships are the goal in many fans minds, anything short of that is not good. Having said that, to win a championship you have to be very good and very lucky. Many will debate the very lucky comment but it is true. Just look back in the history of championships and you will always find how the 'stars aligned' for teams, be it that they were awesome teams, they got calls and breaks during the season that moved the needle down the road to the ultimate goal, a championship.

Baseball: 6 national championships in 18 seasons equates to entitlement syndrome. Every season , it is Omaha or bust.

I did expect more if a run in Omaha but with young pitching, I knew a title would be difficult to achieve this year. 54 wins in a season and an SEC championship is outstanding.

Football: unless you win 10 or more games , Les is on the hot seat. Can't beat Nick Saban ergo Miles is not a good coach apparently. Fan base was spoiled with 03 and 07 titles.

Fan base expects a lot from LSU's big three ! Entitlement syndrome. We have good coaches that can never reach perfection. The play by play announcer is not good enough. The athletic director is not good enough. The food being sold at con sessions is not good enough. The parking is not good enough for some people. Nothing is ever good enough for people who live miserable lives.

That's because this board has a polarizing effect. It's hard to ignore either side because they write the loudest. I think the Fire Every Coach crowd and the Head In The Sand crowd are equally abhorrent.

I think expectations should vary per season as well. I don't expect to really compete for a NC this year in football. If we do, great, but I won't be upset if we don't. I will be upset if it looks like we're not making progress on the field and come close to another 5 loss season. That said, most seasons in FB we should be in the Top 10 and competing for a playoff spot. The recruiting, facilities, fanbase, funding are all there for a consistent Top 10, some years Top 4 program.

I think part of the problem is that the coaches we have in all 3 sports right now are great recruiters but have major faults as gameday coaches.

So people see the talent on paper and expect better results than we are getting.
