Appreciate the traditions we don't have
Posted by irnfan on 10/27/14 at 10:20 pm171
I'm not hating or judging. Everyone has the right to celebrate and support their team any way that they want. I'm just glad that as a fan, I'm not required to support landsharks and get fired up yelling Hotty Toddy. I still don't get it, even after having it explained to me. The black bear thing too - how many unofficial mascots do they have?
The whole sandstorm tradition before the kickoff at USCe may have been cool the first time, but not it just looks uncomfortable, like being drug onto a dance floor when you're just not in the mood or a couple of beers not loose enough. If I had to pretend to get super fired up by techno music before every first kickoff, I'd probably stop going. LINK
As an LSU fan, I think we've got it pretty good. Sure, they spoil our fun sometimes by discontinuing some of the things that we like, but am I missing any traditions that have probably run their course or probably weren't a great idea to begin with? Are there any traditions at other school that you're glad we don't do or at LSU that you're glad we no longer do?

Well then, who the heck is Colonel Reb? I guess I just haven't spent enough time learning about Old Miss to appreciate them.

Auburn does some awful male cheerlrader chant over the PA system before their games too. Extremely awkward.

You're right. Really glad we don't have cowbells, or vuvuzelas.

Florida High School and their two bits cheer.
Don't get me wrong the history is pretty neat. But the chant is all of the cheesiness of "hot boudin" without any of the personality.

LSU used to do that 2 Bits cheer in the early 90s - hated it!

He has been relegated to the scrap heap of political correctness. He was too "offensive" .

Colonel Webbel isn't good for recruiting. For some reason a lot of black folks think that slavery and the Civil War were related! They just haven't been properly "educated", I guess.
Ole Miss's best years were towards the end of segregated football teams, late 50's - early 70's - then they kinda fall off the map for a few years. Think about that.

I thought there was going to be a alternative sexuality theme, and a few shots being taken at A&M...But I was surprised...
Traditions require consensus; LSU fans are far too contrary to all agree on something. It's not our way to "organize" fandom. If it's "gold game", lots show up in purple. I respect all the other schools' traditions though (but I think A & M's are really odd). They took away the STTDB that was equally loved and hated, which is so LSU.
One tradition never changes though: Death Valley Big Game At Night = best venue ever in CFB.
