I am in an argument with an MSU fan. I say this one pathetic call is what won them the game so LSU cannot claim 22 straight in the series.

I recall LSU leading 16-11 and State had 4th and Goal on the LSU 1. LSU stopped the ball carrier in the backfield and he crawled to the endzone which they somehow granted him giving the Bulldogs the 17-16 "win".

I have never found coverage of this game. Does anyone know where to find it so I can prove this was an awful call?

I've never found a highlight or a clip of that play either, but it happened like you said.

Remains to this day the worst call I've ever seen in any sport anywhere. Guys knees hit at the 2 then the 1 and then he lunged into the endzone and they gave him the TD.

You are right about that goal line play. That RB didn't get in. I remember watching that game and being soooo pissed!

They showed that game on ESPN Classic in 2011, and it reaffirmed my memory of it. I'm pretty sure it came on during the day before our Thursday night game with MSU.

That 1999 year just didn't make sense to me. It was like we were losing on purpose. Four conference games that year we lost should have been wins.

28-27 loss @ Georgia
39-36 loss vs. Kentucky
17-16 loss @ Miss. State
And the game @ Alabama where Booty refused to pass to two open WRs and was sandwiched at the 1 as the clock ran out.

That entire year...just felt like something was wrong...to the point I thought there was some back action. I mean, LSU started the year Top 10. Then, we fire DiNardo (0-7 in the league and lost to Houston) and then we CLOBBER No. 20 Arkansas 35-3 in the finale to avoid what would have been the only winless SEC season in program history.

I can't find any video of it, but you were right about the score, and down & distance too.

LSU vs Mississippi State (Oct 23, 1999)

It's weird. How can there be NO evidence of this game? I swear Miss. State burned the tapes!! This is probably why we have instant replay now.

rpg37, I think the '98 & '99 seasons are running together in your mind.

For the OP, SEC-on-Demand will sell the video to you for $7: LINK.

There is also a video link in this ESPN article, but I don't think it works anymore: LINK.

You've got '98 and '99 all mixed up. '98 was the year we started top 10, lost to GA 27-28 and it all went downhill from there. The KY and Bama games you mentioned were in '98 as well, but we beat MSU 45-6 that year

'99 we started out unranked, and then had the 7 straight SEC losses, and then got our arse kicked at home by Houston which is when they fired Dinardo. '99 was the year of the 17-16 MSU game as well.

It was reverse the next year when toefield fumbled headed into the endzone but it was called a touchdown. LSU beat state in OT.

The OP was right about the Bama game going down to Booty not passing to wide open receievers to win the game in 1999. Also, another frustrating last second loss was the UGA game In Athens that year. Booty flings a miracle hail-mary as time expeired that was caught in the endzone. Down by 1 Dinardo decided to go for 2. Booty has a receiver open in the endzone but the UGA linebacker jumps up and makes a basketball like rejection of the pass to preserve the 1 point win.

Yeah some of those games were mixed up but we still lost another shite ton of close games in 99 just like in 98.

I think we've more than made up for the past with our ability to win close games under Miles, though.

98 and 99 sucked but in the end they were a blessing. Dinardo isn't fired and LSU doesn't win national titles in 03 and 07 if Dinardo wins a few close games and goes 6-6 or 7-5 in 98 and 99.

I agree with this, but one caveat...there is a big difference between a first quarter TD on the opening drive and a last second TD for the game.

Wasn't there a lot of racism problems on the team those couple of years?

can't find the 1999 game, but came across the 1993. I remember watching this one. Back when ABC had an afternoon game before the CBS contract.
