I feel like its something I should have known, but hadn't heard of it until 2 days ago. Still not sure what it is and no I haven't even googled it. Was this term used in Canada's binder?

The term came about after the last big conference realignment and was popularized when the college football playoff was developed.

That term has been around since the dawn of time. It just means the big 5 conferences.

POWER 5 is the "GUARANTEE" that NCAA is using to make sure that no two teams from the SEC meet in the Finals again.
They wanted this and did not have the balls to actually say it.
It is not about the best 4 teams it is about the best 4 teams in the Power conferences, which is why, in my opinion, they will go to a 6 team playoff, so they can recognize ONE each from the Power 5 and then another one of the "darlings"

It'll likely be an 8 team playoff eventually with 5 power 5 conference champs and 3 at large bids. It'll likely give mid-major conference teams and independents some rule to get in like if they finish in the top 8 teams regardless of at-large teams ranked ahead of them.

I like the 6 team playoff with top 2 getting byes but if they expand, it'll likely be to 8.

Yeah, me to. Just heard it yesterday....right after I was informed that water is wet.

So I googled it. Here's what I found...

Power 5: German for "what a douchenozzle."

I agree on the 6 ..it would give value to the #1 and # 2 position ... but in the era of "everyone gets a trophy" ?????

I think there should be four major conferences, consisting of 16 teams, which would cover the Power 5.
