The most beautiful site in a perfect bowl with no upper decks watching LSU beat Ole Miss on the last play of the game with a Bert Jones TD pass! Anyone remember these years/games?
I was there that night and many others before there were any upper decks. Back then, the "upper deck" meant the south end zone upper deck. I sat in those seats from 1971 until I went to LSU in 1982. I was right in the corner where Jones threw the TD to Davis on the final play in 1972. The capacity at that time was about 67,500 and I thought that was just staggeringly huge.
Something about that second picture in your post seems wrong, though. The south end zone appears to be all one level without two separate decks, and the outside of the south end looks wrong. It looks like the north end but that's not how the real thing looks. Is that second photo real? It looks like an artist's rendering or a photoshop.
