SIAP.

154 and 193 pitches for two pitchers in a HS game?

If I was Paul Mainieri, I'd be making a call to Rummel and be telling that coach to knock off that stuff.

Pitch Count over 150 for both pitchers?

I only saw it posted on the Recruiting Board. Most people probably didn't see it.

Fully developed pitchers are capable of throwing that many pitches. The trend in recent years has been to limit their pitches but for decades a pitcher was expected to finish games.

My friend's great uncle pitched for the Boston Red Sox in the 40's and he told us of a game where he threw 18 innings.

10 innings allowing one run on two hits. He recorded 10 strikeouts and threw 154 pitches

15 pitches an inning

not a big deal

you dont think its a big deal for a HS pitcher to throw 150+ pitches. I'll go ahead and disagree with that.

You're talking about the most successful left hander to ever pitch at Fenway.

May he RIP

Dude this ain't the 40's, the world is not at war and pitchers get paid millions, some over 100 million. The game has changed quite a bit, 157 is probably to many for a pro, no way a developing high school kid should be allowed to throw that many

his example also was of a grown man, not of a HS kid so im not sure how it even relates.

Just went to a baseball coaches clinic that featured a guest speaker who is a well respected orthopedic surgeon in my area. About 90 percent of his speech was about how devastating overthrowing a pitcher can be. So yea, the jackass coach who did that should be hung by the balls.

no the biggest difference is doctors and coaches in the 40s didn't know how terrible it was for your arm to throw as much as they did then. with what is known now and how many high school kids that have reconstructive surgery on their arms as is, that coach should be reprimanded for letting a 17 year old throw 194 pitches in a game. just ridiculous. the max, and i mean max, pitch count for a high school pitcher should be barely over 100.

It relates since she qualified the pitcher as having to be fully developed. Her comment wasn't about these two kids as much as it was about the trend to limit pitches.

First, you're an idiot.

Second, yes, baseball has changed quite a bit as people have changed quite a bit. Pitchers are throwing much harder, on average than they used to, putting more strain on their bodies. Hitters are better than they used to be, making pitchers have to work harder for every out, putting more strain on their arms.

What happened in the 40s is not relevant to today. Mostly what happened in the 80s isn't really that relevant today.

The reason you've seen a trend toward limiting pitch counts and innings is because knowledge has increased, though apparently not with you.

In terms of pitching it has. Weren't many pitchers in the 40s throwing the type of heat, 12 to 6 curves, sliders, etc that pitchers are required to today to be successful.

Each arm only has so many snap curves in it.
