Know we all agree that wins and losses on the field are how to measure a program first and foremost, but great job (again) by our SID office, pr staff etc as Football Media Guide and Program win #1 from the SID membership (link below). Lots of first class people behind the scenes at LSU, Bonnette, Martin, Franques, Lowe etc. work hard and great to see things like this. Thanks guys!

you may be right, but I have to think people who post on this board are so passionate about sports, they respect the behind the scenes work that it takes, so I think most people realize I'm not saying this is anything more than what it is, a nice recognition for a group of guys who work very hard for a program we all love.

From the desk of Jerry Ceppos, Dean of LSU Manship School of Mass Communications:
Don Lemon, Cokie Roberts entertain - and teach - students
Dear alums and other friends,
May grads, as well as other students, hit the jackpot when journalists Don Lemon, the CNN anchor, and Cokie Roberts, the ABC and NPR political analyst, visited the Manship School.
Lemon spoke at the Manship graduation May 17 but also met students at a small dinner the night before and at a brunch in the Holliday Forum just before his speech. In an emotional speech that he said he wrote only that morning, Lemon, who attended the LSU journalism school, talked about overcoming disappointment again and again. As he wrote in the opening paragraph of this book, "Transparent," "On March 1, 1966, the day I was born, Louisiana told me 'no' in many ways because I was born black. Fortunately, this little black boy's family didn't get the memo. My family told me 'yes,' and they affirmed it every day of my life." Lemon's mom, who lives in Port Allen, and his older sister attended the events.
CBS correspondent Bob Schieffer spoke at the spring Manship graduation last year. For the last two winter graduations, prominent local figures Sean Reilly and Dan Borne have spoken. We're going to try to continue this new tradition of prominent national media figures speaking in the spring and prominent local figures speaking in the winter.
Cokie Roberts took a tour of the Journalism Building and of the Student Media operations in Hodges Hall before lunch in the Holliday Forum May 16. Roberts answered so many student questions that she almost was late to the main LSU graduation, where she praised the Manship School and congratulated the Reveille for being named the best student daily in the country. (The entire audience, or close to it, applauded loudly at the mention of the Reveille award.) Roberts is the daughter of former Louisiana Reps. Hale and Lindy Boggs.
Best,
Jerry Ceppos
Dean
The Daily Reveille named nation's best daily student newspaper
The Daily Reveille was named the nation's best all-around daily student newspaper by the Society of Professional Journalists at its recent Mark Of Excellence Awards ceremony honoring the best in student journalism. Two newspaper staff members were honored as national finalists in individual categories: Luke Johnson, for both sports column writing and sports writing, and Gordon Brillon, for general column writing.
.
The Daily Reveille also racked up on awards at the 2013 Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors annual meeting and awards presentation at the University of Mississippi's Overby Center in April.
In all, The Daily Reveille received 17 awards in 12 categories, including eight first place awards and sweeping the categories of Spot/Breaking News Photos and College Bureau/News. The full list follows below:
The Daily Reveille advertising staff earns national awards
College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers (CNBAM) announced its 2013 advertising contest winners at an awards banquet on April 6 during its annual national convention held in San Diego, CA.
The Daily Reveille Advertising & Marketing staff garnered five awards in this prestigious competition. (Note that many schools enter and do not win a single award.) Most categories were limited to three winners, however larger categories named five winning entries.

I always enjoy reading the local paper when I travel, and I'm always amazed how often my college paper is better than many large sized cities.
Well done folks!
