As a fellow Coloradan and Tiger, I enjoy KG's success. This from a national publication...

quote:

But the O's have another young right-hander in the system, well-regarded by scouts, putting up impressive numbers in the high minors. Kevin Gausman entered the season not far behind Bundy in the prospect ranks — No. 26 at BA, 36 at MLB, 13 at BP — and he's off to a terrific start at Double-A Bowie. He was brilliant in his most recent start at Trenton on Friday, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four hits and one run, recording 10 Ks. For the season, the 22-year-old has a WHIP of 1.06, an ERA of 3.11, and he's whiffed 49 batters in 46.1 innings while issuing only five walks.
Over Gausman's last five starts, his ratios are obscene: 1.78 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 9.20 K/9, 6.20 K/BB.

If he and Dylan Bundy can stay healthy, the O's will be good for a long time

Do they want to start his clock this early though?

They're a playoff team and they're far enough into the season to where they would still get 6 seasons plus the rest of this one. No reason to hold him back.

He's their best (or second best) prospect and they need pitching. Hes pitching well in AA. Has all his options. The move couldn't hurt.

Gausman won't be called up this year. Based on two reasons, the Orioles should be in contention all season and bringing up a rookie midseason probably won't happen. And two, I just don't think he's ready this season. Most likely next season. He will go straight from AA to MLB from what I hear.

He's got a pretty good head on his shoulders. If he's ready, he's ready. No sense in spinning wheels in the minors if they feel like he can contribute toward a playoff push,

The Rangers, with one of the best records in baseball, are very much in contention and they have TWO rookies in their rotation right now because they give them the best chance to win (and will have another when Martin Perez gets healthy). If they O's think Gausman gives them the best chance to win, he'll be up.

Injuries could bring him up, but Britton Johnson Arrieta and Wada, when healthy take priority over Kevin. He will comeup over Bundy if his elbow doesn't heal.

The Rangers have two rookies n the rotation because they have 3 starters on the DL. Neither tepesch nor Grimm would be on this big club if Harrison, Lewis, and Ogando were healthy.

TINSTAAPP.

I bet he's in the bigs by the end of the year, even if it's just the bullpen.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles will call up Kevin Gausman to make his major league debut on Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Good call. You just have some really in-tune sources.
