It was picked for the Oklahoma and Kentucky games last season. Not 80's-90's full and electric, but it definitely gives you a little taste of the potential.

Isn't he the one that they've modeled the "Mike walk" off of?

The PMAC would be a great venue if the team was good enough to fill it. It's problems mostly stem from the fact that it's a barn. Unless it's full, it feels dead because the seats are so far away from the court. Having the media tables right next to the student section with only a tiny segment of students being close to the court doesn't help either. It is a cavernous space, which makes one feel awkward to cheer too loudly, especially when the team and crowd is garbage.
Winning cures all ills. I remember the best game I saw there, the Ice Dome game against Kentucky. The building was only 3/4 full, but it was 90% drunk, rowdy, snowed-in students. It was incredible. I saw the potential that night.
Last season, JJ had many opportunities, but the team managed to lose nearly every big game when the crowd actually showed up. Failing to make the tourney with the best player in America tends to turn the fans off a little bit. The team was absolute garbage this year, so people had zero reasons to give JJ a second chance.
If a new coach can win, 2 years from now, the PMAC could be one intimidating place. But a venue is only as good as its crowd, and BR won't support a loser. If they win, the crowd will eventually start coming and filling the PMAC, and it will be Great Again.

I am not really a fan of it either. But it is ours and when we have a good team that places rocks. I just don't like them round cookie cutter type arenas that were built in the 70's.
