I feel like he is a lot more valuable out of the bullpen especially considering the rain chances. The bullpen isn't THAT deep regarding dependable.

Am I missing something?

Treat today like a mid-week game and get the rotation set for the super. Lange, Poche and Walker.
Bats should do all the work today.

I don't really care what other people think or say I trust PM and let him ride with his decision. The guy knows what he's doing.

That he wouldn't go a ton of innings. 3-4 innings. Get ahead by 5+. Put in Bain.

I think CPM is making the right call....many disagree though.

There are a ton of people waiting for LSU to slip somewhere along the way so they can come back and crucify our coaches for the move.

The pros out weight the cons here, without having a crystal ball to look into.

What do you mean by "set the rotation"?

It;s not like pitching Poche today would make him any less effective when he pitches Saturday (or Friday if we start on Thursday).

Going to be funny when Walker is pitching to keep LSUs season alive on Sunday. That'll bring some spice to the FireMaineri crowd.

Poche has not been sharp recently.
With the way Gilbert threw in sec tourney I think PM is confident if he had to start Gilbert if lsu falls into loser's bracket.

I don't there is any real pro/con, I think it's mostly preference.

Honestly, other than pitching Lange today, there isn't a "wrong move"

If he's going Johnny wholestaff route then don't even start Poche. I think he pitches atleast 5 innings to get the decision. Regardless, my point is Gilbert is more valuable in the pen. Not if Poche should start or not.

Everyone but the 3 weekend guys are more valuable in the pen. That's not news and no one debates it.

Correct, but Gilbert in the pen is more valuable than Bain in the pen.

Can you imagine the backlash of going Johnny Wholestaff and losing the opening game if we "treated it like a mid-week game?" CPM is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

How many innings does Poche have to log to get the W?

Pros/Cons list

Pros:

- gives us the best chance of winning the game today (I know we should win it no matter what, but we have seen this season that playing weaker teams isn't always a given. Texas Southern doesn't look great on paper, but they did have to win a bunch of games in a row to get here).

- Almost a certainty Walker pitches this weekend.

- Allows Poche to possibly come back on Monday if he's needed.

Con's:

- If Poche has a high stress outing and can't come back and pitch if needed, we are throwing the whole staff against a team in the championship, with a ton on the line, instead of Texas Southern.

I will always lean towards giving your team the best chance of winning 3 games.
