After watching Deshaun Watson last night...

And Chad Kelly last year, Trevor Knight, the year before, Bo Wallace, Cardale Wright, Nick Marshall, Johnny Manziel Cam Newton, Tim Tebow and on and on, I've come to the realization that, as excited as I am about LSU football, I can't get too excited until we have a quarterback in place that can make plays against Bama.
He doesn't have to a heisman winner or contender like most of these guys, but he has to be a lot more instinctual than what we have.
It is the most important position on the team, and until we fill it sufficiently, we won't be able to compete or beat Alabama like the above mentioned guys did

It is frustrating to know that if we had those types of qb's, we would be winnin nattys left and right.

u got so many damm names wrong that you've convinced me they're right

Our problem is that we try to insert a dual threat QB in a pro style offense. It just doesn't work. I think with the recent QB offers though we are seeing a change in the type of QBs we are going after. Hopefully this will help us down the road bc we all know we aren't going to spread it out.

So you don't know Cardale Wright???

LSU almost beat Bama with Anthony Jennings in 2014. They beat them twice with Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee. You don't need a top qb to beat them it is just a lot easier

While I agree that is a component of the problem, the problem is actually more intrinsic than that IMO. I believe we lack the ability to actually coach the dynamics of the position. It starts with Miles and ends with Miles.
We have had and continue to have coaches that have worked with and developed successful QBs at the highest levels. However, we never seem to change and there has been one constant...Miles
He is the problem and you are a fool if you believe it will change while he is here.

Trevor Knight beat Bama in the Sugar, not Mayfield.

If LSU had a qb that performed like Watson did and still lost 45-40 the reaction would be the same. Fire Miles. I'm not saying LSU doesn't need to improve. I'm saying that no matter what we will nitpick the performance by the team because the lost. The only stat that matter is the final score.= sorry.

We beat Bama early on in their 'upbringing'. They have changed. They are better than their '09, '10, and '11 teams IMHO. In fact, all college football is playing at a higher clip these days.
In the past, we were able to hide our QB, and our best defenses under Miles spanned 2010-12, so yeah that helped.
The formula right now, is that you have to put up 40 points on Bama to win. We need above average to Heisman-worthy consideration at QB to do that. I won't feel confident with best at every position, until we get THAT position dealt with.
If there is one thing Les has to stop saying about his QB's, especially against Bama, it's "as long as he does the things we ask of him, we will be fine." Nope. Not acceptable anymore. The QB against Bama has to be able to carry the team AT TIMES, and be capable of making instinctual decisions, outside of the coach being in his head.

A dual threat scrambling QB who can make plays can cover up bad coaching and game planning. That's exactly what we need. I'm not sure if we could win with a Coker type game manager anymore.

Harris can make those throws. The realization that Les has to come to is that being completely "risk averse" on offense is what kills them. Teams know that LSU doesn't want to throw in the middle of the field (how often did Watson attack the middle with slants last night). LSU's formations are as basic as they come. Rarely does LSU cause the opposing defense any confusion.
Les's whole offensive approach is believing that his guys are better than your guys in a one-on-one matchup and avoiding plays that may bring with it an increased risk of a TO. It's hard to win big games against good teams when you're playing "not to lose". Harris can be just as good as many of those other QBs. The coaching just has to let him play and accept that he's human, mistakes will happen.

Lol....you never pass up an opportunity to bash miles do you. Lol

I am the biggest Miles supporter and am glad he is staying, but he is going to have to start letting his QB make mistakes, and learn from them. He cannot keep playing football like a game of chess, and act like his QB is just a pawn.
Our QB has to have first the ability, but also the go-ahead to make/take other options. All our passing plays this year were one option. Why do you think Harris had 0 interceptions through 6-7 games? Les has to start letting them play their position, all of it

instinctual
The problem is that LSU QBs are not put in a position to be instinctual because that requires trusting them. Our QBs have little discretion and have their hand held at all times.
Maybe it's good that they aren't trusted (if they are in fact incapable of good decisions), or maybe it's the system that renders them incapable from the onset.
