With the talent in place and the potential of keeping a top recruiting class, what do you think would be the fan base expectations for the new coach? LSU hasn't had a new coach in 11 years....so what is the new barometer for success?

Does it vary depending on the coach?

How long do you think it would take for Herman, Fisher, O, Fleck, etc to start competing for championships before their tenure would be being labeled as sustaining, under, or over achieving?

Three years. Next year I would expect a solid year and maybe a drop off the second year with a new QB, then the 3rd year we would have to be making a strong push for the playoff.

Two games. Miles got off to a bad start with the Brittany Spears headset against ASU. Honeymoon was officially over when he lost to Tennessee.

New coach gets 2 games before he's either hated or lived by a majority of the fan base.

It has always been 3 years

You always know if you have a winner within 3 years, no matter what kind of season you are coming off of

SEC NC coaches this century:
-Saban @LSU: SECC 2nd year, NC 4th
-Meyer @UF: SEC and NC 2nd year
-Miles @LSU: SEC and NC 3rd year
-Saban @UA: SEC and NC 3rd year
-Chizick @AU: SEC and NC 1st year?
-Malzahn @AU: SEC and played for NC 2nd year

Even coaches like Butch and Freeze show their ceiling by year 3. OM had their shot last year, now they are a 9 win team for forseable future, same with UT.

Richt showed what he was in his 3rd year at UGA. SECC quality but never NC caliber, when the SEC had an NC caliber team they were beating Richt teams in the SECCG

Reality:
O gets 1 year- he won't have a huge contract to buyout if he fails and won't have as much a leash as a permanent head coach. Having said that, he'll only get job if he shines, so not thinking this would be a problem.

First half of the first game.

Our rant experts have told us time after time that LSU has more talent then any college football team but for Alabama and the only thing holding us back was the coaching.

Now that we will have great coaching to go along with our great talent, anything worst that 11-1 or 10-2 regular seasons will be a failure.

I think the circumstances would dictate that. a coach needs to get "in sync" as to the team abilities. miles was out of sync; one year one unit was good while another was poor and the next year it was something else. he hired poor coaches and then had to replace them. there was always something that prevented us from having a complete team. the new coach isn't going to have that kind of liberty.

I do think that LSU is right behind Bama in talent in most positions, but not all positions...and our depth in some positions is slim...but if CEO is successful to a high degree the rest of the season and he is given 3 years to show he's the man for the job, I think this coming class would fill the voids and we would be truly competitive for the play off in no more than 2 yrs...if by the 3rd yr. we don't beat Shorty, then I'd be disappointed personally...hell, I want to beat them this year but I don't think we have the quality depth at a couple of positions...but I pray that I'm wrong...jmho
