"A scud missle without a GPS..."

Yahoo sports pre-combine top 16 league draft prospects.
#11-Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU, "A scud missle without a GPS at times. Mingo often played wide end, which can be a feast-or-famine position. Tremendous speed in space and off the snap, but can be easily blocked out at the line and may have to switch from end to outside linebacker at the next level. Another pass-rusher who would benefit from looping and stunting inside through free gaps."
fair assessment?

I didn't see Mingo get easily blocked all season. LSU defense played a lot of read schemes with their ends. Mingo wasn't cut lose as often as some think. All those who project him to finish outside the top 10 are just plain silly.

Very fair IMO. He overran plays often. Extremely fast in space but sometimes too fast.
Awesome talent, can't wait to see him on Sundays.

I can see a move to OLB. I think he's too small for NFL DE.

Is there another reason you put:

Sorry, but I didn't see much over running plays from Mingo. Our run defense was pretty good. The pass defense was bad towards the end of the season. If they questioned his lack of sacks, then maybe there is an argument there.

Over runs the play frequently and jumps offsides often. Plays out of control. A project at the next level.

Shades of Rahim Alem as he looked over his shoulder from the backfield.

He never looked as bad as Rahim Alem.

This pretty spot on. He is completely out of control a lot of the time but does seem to do a lot of havoc.
I'm still convinced he was as surprised as the Clemson RB when he TKO'd him on the 1st series of the Peach Bowl. Watching the replay, he more ran into him at full speed then tackle him.

Mingo has great speed but he often overran plays and had trouble breaking down in space.

YUP. He could DOMINATE at OLB.

Right. I think he is better suited for the 3-4 at the next level. His talent wold be realized at the NFL level in a 4-3 scheme.

Mingo will be a monster in the 34 at OLB. It might take him a little time but he already has all the tools. I hate to see him go but I'm anxious to watch him play at the next level.
