There last 6? losses. Dating back to 2008.

6 losses. in 5 and 3/4 of a season played.

All the teams had a unique quality. But one was consistent:

A quarterback, who was arguably better at running the ball then throwing it. J, Jefferson (2) Cam Newton, T.Tebow, J.Manziel,C. Shaw...

Yeah other things had to be there, namely fair defense. But you cannot have a one-dimensional QB and expect to beat Bama.

Mett showed some guts this past Saturday, but Bama
only had to worry about one thing with him.

The difference between last year and this year is the loss of what would be any other schools defense to the draft.

So when we won that 9-6 shoot-out ...it was because of our "mobile" QB ?

Same QB we had at the next meeting?

The glaring difference in the game last Saturday was that Bama has an elite LB in Mosely and we don't. The early departures over the last few years on D were evident in the 2nd half.

even though the rant hates to hear this, defending a mobile QB is the hardest thing for a D to do in cfb. not saying you need a true option QB, there have been mobile guys who are a pass first qb who've been succesful (sort of like flynn and mauck) and even the ones with a bit more wheels like the OP mentioned.

so true, good defenses are solid up the middle of the defense from tackle to safety and we are just bad.

It was the same quarterback, the difference was in the 1st meeting Jefferson ran the option out of the shotgun. When he ran toward the line, it forced the defensive end to commit to him or Jefferson would have done serious damage. When the end committed, he pitched to Ford.

In the championship game, Jordan was put directly behind the center. He went down the line for the read on the end. The end never was stressed, he could play it, to where he could cover Jefferson or Ford.

Of course, that wasn't all the problem that we had, but it was one thing that I noticed differently.

Defensive Line play is biggest difference. If Lsu has more upfront especially interior beef thst Bama game it vastly different. Welter or whoever would look like superheroes behind a better DLine. The secondary is young but they could be vets and still be bad if DLine cannot get any penetration upfront. You can't hold coverage for 8sec on every pass play. Lb play cannot be subpar if Dline play is non-existent cause now you rely on LB to make up your weak Dline play. A Secondary don't make a good Defense. A Good DLine makes a good defense and a tackling LB corps along with a Good Dline makes a Great Defense.

Bama has both. That secondary is weak but the front seven is so dominant it masks Bama secondary deficiencies.

That is dumb. LSU basically scored 24 and that was with Bama controlling the ball the entire 2nd half.

The offensive scheme we have now can absolutely put up points on Bama with a quality passing QB.

Manziel goes kabuki on Bama and Mett struggles. Why? As great as Saban is he couldn't gameplan for a mobile qb who could make something outta nothing.

Our coach spends half the night holding a finger in his ear asking if its 4th down or not and you think the reason LSU can't beat Saban is a mobile QB. OK.

Bama's secondary never tackles. Unless they blitz. Why? Rb's are struck at the los and never make it to the next level. Elite lb play and a stout DL.
That, and they bulldozed our d line.
This is why we lost.

While your basic premise may be right, in 2010 Cam Newton beat Bama with his arm, not with his legs...Bama pretty much shut him down rushing but he killed us with a couple of perfectly thrown deep balls...both of which were pretty much just straight drop-back passes...

The tight end position is so under utilized by CLM that it is hard to fathom...the one glaring difference between LSU's offensive scheme and Bama's offensive scheme is the importance placed on the tight end as an offensive threat. Imagine the Saint's not throwing to Jimmy Graham or Nick Saban not dumping the ball off to 6-foot-6, 237-pound freshman tight end O.J. Howard.

It's insane that he beat them twice.
