Les is a great guy, but let's end this talk that he "deserves" better. As others have pointed out, he has never showed loyalty to LSU. On several occassions he used other schools as leverage to increase his earnings. I had no problem with that, nor do I feel LSU owes him any exceptional consideration.

Les Miles received two raises in 11 years. After winning the sec and bcs title in 07, after winning the sec and having LSUs first 13-0 regular season.

He deserved them. Plus people claim Miles is an idiot and no one would hire him. So either LSU is foolish, or Les Miles is a very good coach and lots of schools want him.

Either way, it doesn't fit the bashers narrative. And if LSU gets Jimbo, they will be paying a lot more than what they were paying Miles.

That's fair and definitely cause for concern. But why this year? Next year was supposed to be the big year - Harris' third year - LF7's final year - the fruition of the last 2 and upcoming recruiting classes - yeah, I know we have a looming linebacker situation - but I'm trying to process how this wasn't supposed to be the year - and it isn't - so, he's fired to chase coaches in this market?

So because next year is supposed to be "the year" that justifies Lsu not even being a top 25 team? Do you pumpers accept such mediocrity in your everyday lives?

Btw, Lsu has now reached the level of the pre-Katrina saints. Every year, next year is supposed to be "the year." The perpetual formula is in effect.

Y = Lsu's "the year"
X = current year

Y = X + 1

I just don't subscribe to this. If looking "bad" winning or looking "good" losing are my choices, I take winning every time.

For years, LSU has been a poorly-coached team. The indicia of a poorly-coached team is regularly apparent each time that LSU football takes the field.

Many fans who watched the "ugly wins" for years would remark: "I know it's a win, but, the team looks poorly-coached."

These fans were always told that "winning ugly is fine and getting the win is all that matters. Looking like a well-coached team is not important."

Well, now that the team is not only losing, but LOOKING REALLY BAD in losing, it seems to me that most LSU fans are coming around: having a team that looks like a well-coached team IS important after all.

Why? Because when you have a team that almost always "wins ugly" when they win, you still have a poorly-coached team. That poorly coached team is not going to "win ugly" forever. At some point, the poorly-coached team will start losing, and looking bad doing so.

LSU football has finally reached that critical point. Coach Miles's poorly-coached LSU football teams will no longer be tolerated. That's a good thing, IMHO.

A coach CAN have losing seasons at LSU

Exactly two coaches in LSU history have been given financial support and facility upgrades to keep LSU on equal footing with the rest of the country. Ott and Hannagriff were laughing the other day about how when Dinardo was looking for an OC we didn't think he could pay enough money to pry away the Clemson tight ends coach. Let that sit in for a moment. Just 20 years ago we lost out on head coaches that we wanted from places like TCU because we wouldn't pay their $350,000 buyout. Today we are willing to hire the highest paid coaching no staff in the country,

You can keep saying this, but it will still not be true. He received his second raise after another disappointing 2012 season. After Arkansas had a head coaching vacancy.

If the raise in 2012 was meant for the 2011 season, it would've come after the 2011 season.

There are valid criticisms of Miles - his teams draw a lot of penalties. We have all kinds of crazy timeout and end of game time management SNAFUs. We have problems getting subs in and out - AND that ties into the first 2 problems causing us to use timeouts or get delay penalties.

Not more than anywhere else. Seriously, watch 140 games of another coach.

Have you watched any saints games recently? It's down right pathetic. And they have a HOF qb.

OK, then that means other schools were willing to hire Les. Yet all I ever here is Michigan never offered, Arkansas was a bluff, they never wanted him.

Looks like LSU is the fool, and most likely will be the fool again after this coaching change.

I know the first raise in 2008 was written in his contract. Second one prob was too. If my math is correct, 2012 is after 2011. LSU played a national title game in 2012. He got a raise in 2012.

Holy shite it's like lsu fans just love to shite on its own program's accomplishments.

I guess you just glossed over a top 10 finish in 2012.

I always find these late, late epiphany threads insanely hilarious.

It is interesting to note, given the fact that all of the indicia of a poorly-coached team have been very apparent for years. Except for the three-game loss streak, LSU football has not recently displayed anything significantly different during these last few games.

And please, let me respond to those who would remind us that it's not the three loss streak, but rather, "It's how BAD we looked in these losses." If looking like a poorly coached team never mattered when LSU won, why should looking bad when losing matter so very much now?

What does this have to do with the fact that his second raise didn't come until after the man that supposedly loves Lsu used a job opening at a lesser school to hold Lsu hostage for an undeserved raise?

Oh I see. You're one of those les miles fans, not an Lsu fan.

I am a fan of the coach of my school, yes. I didn't make the last 11 years miserable for myself cus Nick saban left.

Im just sticking up for the guy when people post bullshite.

So Les is either a good coach and LSU needed to pony up to keep him like you would have to do with any good coach.

Or LSU is freaking foolish and is about to pay a bumbling idiot $15 mil dollars.

You can't have it both ways.

I'll post this again. He received a raise in 2012. The same year LSU played in the bcs title game.

We didn't finish top 10 in 2012. We lost three games to Florida, Bama, and Clemson.

You gripe about people who "shite" on the program but praise posters like Dgnx who think that without Les Miles LSU is garbage. He just stated that he has no faith in lsu's administration to make a good hire. He said we will look like fools after this change. Sounds like he is a Les Miles fan and not a LSU fan. Guys like that can hit the door with Les Miles after Saturday,

One of the more frustrating things for me. It's unbelievable how undisciplined and dis functional we are when considering the money LSU pays the entire coaching staff.

It's not true once Chavis left. We never had the most expensive coaching staff. We had the most expensive coordinators. Also maybe you should be mad that bama spend 8 times what lsu does on recruiting ( it's literally 8 times what lsu spends).

All I ever hear is no one would hire Miles. Yet LSU did and gave him two raises and a freaking huge buy out.

These people you trust to make the decisions when they clearly have made one bad decision after the other for 11 years now?

You people are the problem.

Ohio state has the most expensive staff. It actually dwarfed LSUs. And most other programs as well.

You can't tell these dumbass posters anything. They see another dumbass rantard post something and take it as gospel. I swear most lsu fans actually think we have more talent than Bama wheb facts prove that the talent gap between bama and lsu is bigger than the talent gap between lsu and Ole miss.

Were you not around for the backlash on here when that raise was announced? Have you not seen the hundreds of posts on here chastising Alleva for putting Lsu in this position?

Who do you think is denying this exactly?

I saw your last edit, and I'll respond with an equally stupid comment.

My math skills tell me 2012 comes after 2008. Therefore, I believe miles' 2012 raise was intended to reward him for the 2008 season. It just took a little longer than it should have because the copy machine was out of toner.

Of course I follow the football team.
