A loss to Tennessee could put NIT bid in jeopardy....(yes I am being serious)
Posted by LSUGrad9295 on 3/11/16 at 8:40 am113
Facts: (I know facts aren't normally welcome around here, but here they are)
Current LSU RPI, as of this morning: 93
Current Tennessee RPI, as of this morning: 136
A loss to Tennessee certainly drops LSU a few notches further.
As a reminder, the NIT takes a number of automatic qualifiers (conference champions who lose in their conference tournament are guaranteed a spot in the NIT if they are not at-large to NCAA). Then, the NIT picks a number of at-large teams to finish the 32 team bracket. Last year, only 2 teams with an RPI below where LSU is currently got an at large bid: Arizona State at 102 and Vanderbilt at 104.
NIT Info
And on top of that, those two teams got a 5 seed, which meant they didn't even get a home game in Round 1.
I know...Ben Simmons blah blah blah rabble rabble rabble. And yeah, I think LSU still gets in even with a loss to Tennessee...the point here is to show 2 things:
1) LSU has underachieved so poorly that it has sunk to the bottom of the NIT pecking order.
2) LSU has a good chance of not getting a home game in the NIT if they happen to not win the SEC Tournament.

Well, at least there is some good news I guess if we do lose. Otherwise, there would be at least one more game broadcasted on TV where they talk about LSU underachieving for the whole game.

Would anybody really care if LSU didn't make the NIT?

It's hurting a number of SEC teams that there are already 11-12 automatic bids into the NIT taken up. All the regular season champs in these smaller conferences that don't win their conference tournament get an auto bid. So far only one has won their tournament.

So what. It's been over for a while for this team.

Seriously at this point, LSU is NOT getting any bid for post season play, no offense but the time you took to write this post is a waste, Basketball team has failed this year

Which furthers my argument that an NIT bid isn't a certainty with a loss today...and a home game is almost totally out the window.

LSU should decline a bid to the NIT anyways. It's embarrassing for a team with this much talent and expectations to be playing for a consolation prize. NCAA tourney or bust.

Oh I agree, I don't see LSU getting an NIT bid if they lose today. Even a win against a bad Tennessee team won't really do much to strengthen the case.

No sticky thread just shows what a cluster frick Johnny Jones is as the coach.

That's what happens when you lose to the College of frickING Charleston.

Correct me if I am wrong. If we win the SEC tourney, the NIT is not a factor because we get the NCAA bid automatically. Thus it can be assumed from an NIT standpoint, we will not win the SEC tourney (which is probably about a 95% chance anyway)
2) LSU has a good chance of not getting a home game in the NIT if they happen to not win the SEC Tournament.

What time is the game?

pretty sure it's at 2:30.
Should be a cake game for LSU, but in all likelihood the team has given up.
