I have always been an optimist. But let me say that I have this nagging feeling of resignation. Despite the somewhat unethical nature of the "process" of the last two weeks, I felt emotion for the first time in a long time regarding LSU football last night. I was sad to see Les go and it was such a moving exit. But I was happy...excited to see what was to come next. Then, within moments I got that next: Les Miles is to be retained. My friends and I were left speechless and almost immediate indifference set in. We know the narrative of the next year:

Talk of promise during spring practice... An improved passing game! We will see some things during the spring game that give us hope. Then, we play Wisconsin. Quickly the game and the year settles into frustration and anxiety. We will wonder why we never see Donte Jackson used some on offense or special teams. Why not more of Guice and Fournette together? Crossing routes? Just generally creative route running. Why is it that none of our quarterbacks can make a basic throw? Of course, we will have more wins than losses and that is good enough. We'll lose 3-5 games (more likely three) and.... Blah, frick it! Never mind...

Tom Herman will have no mercy when he plays us.

I feel like I'm back in high school when it was really exciting just to make a lay December bowl game and the thought of actually winning the SEC, or even just the SECw, was mere fantasy.

Kevin Steele will have no idea how to stop any offense other than TAM with its small offensive line.

I thought this was a nice, succinct expression of the malaise and hopelessness that much of the fanbase is experiencing.

And we will all be back here at this same time next year roughly talking about the same thing again... Right after we lose to Bama 0-6..... We can talk about the stale offense then... Oh wait, that will start when we play Wisconsin.... Yea, you right.... frick it!....
