A Comparison...but honestly, who starts next year?

Personally, I think JJ's been doing a fine job. However, we have a significant talent in waiting. I took a look at Tebow's stats his first year:
Florida's NC year he made 33 passes for 5 TDs and 1 INT. He rushed 89 times for almost 500 yards and 8 TDs
So far this year, Shepard has 11 rushes for 74 yds and 0 TDs.
I hope we use him more in the coming games, and I think we will. I think he shows the same promise Tebow did.
The question I have is how do we keep a talent like Shepard out of the starting QB position after this year. If anything, I imagine it will be a dual QB system, because anyone who reads the recruiting board knows Russell didn't come her to play RB or WR.
I'm looking for any thoughts, opinions, or just fun stuff to read, so let's hear what you have to say. Thanks.

Because if you watch Shepard throw the ball in warmups, you see that he is the 5th best thrower at the QB position on the team, behind McCartney.
Chad Jones and Rueben Randle both throw better than he does as well.

I've taken a look at his videos on Rivals and Scout. Shep can throw the ball. The question I have is whether we have to throw JJ on the bench after this year to allow this talent to play.

Good point, but just to counter, Pat White is 6-2, 185. He also won 4 bowl games in a row.

Shep wants to play, and he came here for the chance to play QB. But if you listen to him winning is real important to him too.

Some people just don't want to see Shepard play QB. Baffling because we can run zone read 50 times a game with Shep at QB and probably be unstoppable.
If Rich Rodriguez is coaching this offense right now, we put up 40 a game with Shep at QB IMO.
Also 5th best thrower? frick, give him 1 read and if it's covered, take off.

It doesn't matter if he's the 5th best thrower on the team. When teams immediately react to the dangerous threat of him running, it opens up the secondary. His WR's will be wide open more often.
I think we split the time with JJ getting the lion's share, but RS slowly getting more and more PT. Garret seems poised to take over JJ's spot when he moves on, and until that time, JL will cover spot duty and be there if JJ gets nicked up.

I think Shep needs a bigger role given the sorry state of our traditional run game.

Couldn't have said it better. RS can throw, saw him do it fairly well in the spring game. But, Garrett is a flat out stud. Cannon arm, deadly accurate, and 'appeared' cool as a cucumber back there. Then again the green jersey may have had something to do with that. idk

I don't know, I don't see how we can keep him out of a prominent role in the offense, which means he'll be our QB at some point. Optimally, JJ start this year and the next two years, with Shep running the wild hog and acting as decoy out of the backfield and split wide. JJ graduates, Shep starts at QB one year, then Garrett, a fifth year RS Senior, starts the next year.

Not to mention that Chris Leak graduated after Tebow's freshman year so it was only natural that Tebow started in his second year.

I honestly dont think Shepard will ever be the starting QB at LSU
You guys should have seen Garret's arm during fall camp...best arm on the team already.
Shepard will be a major contributor though no doubt.

I understand Garrett looked good, but how can you say Shep won't start while he's here. He's a Mike Vick/Pat White mix, and I don't see how we can pass on something like that.

I really wish we'd just play him like Percy Harvin.
I think Jefferson has enough potential and should be really good next year and the following year.
With Shep taking snaps at WR, and RB mainly with a few Wildcat snaps as well, i think that's the best way to utilize him, IMO.
