Im at the camp and didnt get the game. What was it like for those that watched or listened? Seems like we played well on defense, what happened with the bats? Poor base running? Leaving guys in scoring position? I would have expected a few more runs tonight? Did maryland play solid D or have a good starter?

Hit into 3 double plays. Usually the story of our season.

3 double plays and a couple steals picked off. katz had a bad night, rhymes is still a beast and Bregman is going to be a force. a lot of pop outs also

With 9 hits, we should have had more that 1 run. Only player that looked flat out terrible offensively was Katz, but we all know he will come around.

Javi spent the offseason perfecting his rib recipe....screw making our hitters better.

In all seriousness, we picked up right where we left off against Stoney Brook. Hopefully this was just opening night jitters and we improve. I'll give it 3 SEC series before I become really alarmed.

Actually, we hit much better tonight than during the Stony Brook series. There were many fly-outs and only one extra base hit. Nine hits was an improvement over the S.B. series, by far.

Didn't know where to ask this!

What's the tigers pitching rotation look like this year? And how do the bats look?

Hope to see the tigers in Omaha!

I would say that we hit the ball ok, but not great. The main issues were the wind seeming to cut down a lot of extra base hits and turning them into easy fly outs (though it saved us on a bomb late) and a lack of timely hitting. Our leadoff hitter was 4-4 and I don't even think he was the 1 run.

The other thing to keep in mind that was their ace and is supposed to be pretty good, not that we wont see better once SEC pitching comes around. I think people were expecting us to come down and slug it all over the place, but Maryland is better than most of the scrubs we seem to play in the beginning of the season. They played well in the field and stole a lot of hits from us too. We definitely need to pick up our play, but it was opening night and there's a lot to look forward to. Mostly baseball.

Good post. From what I remember, maryland usually fields a pretty solid team. I hope we get it together. Without watching the game, pitching/defense seem to be right on cue. But that timely hitting and desicions on base is what plagued us last season.

My God it was the first game. Give them time and they will be fine.

Oh yeah, LSU won.

no mention of the wind and the cold.

when the wind is blowing from left to right at 15mph all night its going to be hard to hit, really only hits you can get are absolute bombs, line drives, or balls that get through the infield on the ground. Not easy to do.

Yep. Without a doubt, the #1 problem on the Rant these days is pre-emptive retorts to imagined stereotyped attitudes.
