My first born son was initially due November 27th. We had routine OB checkup yesterday and were sent for "precautionary" observation overnight due to some drops in fetal heart rate that were unexpected. At 915pm, I got a call from the wife telling me "get my arse up there NOW" (was on my way to hospital to spend the night, coming in after work)
At 10:07, after starting totally unanticipated emergency C Section, my son decided he would join us 5 weeks early. He is 5Lbs, 10oz and has some issues w underdeveloped lung functions. So while prayers are appreciate, he is doing very well for being so early.
Just pretty pumped that he is going to be here to watch the gators get beat down today.

Thanks. Both are doing well so far, cautiously optimistic about outcome for son. Very early considering what was expected, no major issues it seems except the concern of decreased lung function

Praying for your family. Listen I know it's easy for us to say on here that it's gonna be fine, but it really is. My daughter was 12 weeks early, 15 years ago and she's a perfectly healthy honor student. That was 15 years ago. NICU doctors and nurses have come a long way since then and it's amazing what they can do.
My advice is don't just be cautiously optimistic. Be sure with every ounce of your being that he's gonna be perfect. Make sure he hears it every day when you visit. It makes a difference.

That is a big baby for being 5 weeks early. My little guy was 3 weeks early and he was only 6lbs.
Congratulations and enjoy. Best advice I can give you is do what you and your wife feel is right with the baby. You will have family, friends, and strangers telling you how to do things. Don't let them influence you on what you think is right for your child and do what you know is best for your child.

Congrats man. Set the example for what a good man/father should be and he will do the same.

Congrats and welcome to the Tiger Fan-base to the little guy.
The next few years will fly by before you know it so savor them. Teach him (and any future kids) right from wrong but make sure you tell them you love them every night before they nod off. Tell them you're proud of them. And sit and talk (and listen!) to them. It does wonders.
Oh, and looks like you definitely married up.

Congrats. And enjoy this amazing time in your life.
Don't be put off by the under-developed lungs. It's completely normal and expected for a premature child. He will be just fine and will get to watch many, many LSU games with his dad.
