Here is a pretty good article that explains the main branches of the spread offense. It also tells you which branches the well-known coaches come from (e.g. Kiffin, Briles, Urban Meyer and by extension Hermann, etc).

Great article, thanks for posting this. This is a good illustration that there are multiple philosophies and that spread doesn't always equate to the Mike Leach Air Raid.

Whoever is crazy enough to hire him will be having success. I just hope Saban doesn't take him on as an analyst.

I like the smash mouth spread. It would be nice to get a Briles disciple at OC.
