1.Kentucky was the perfect practice game

the offenses aren't identical, but they both use lots of 4 and 5 WR sets. those are different enough that it can often take a few series for the defense to get used to (TAM jumped out to a 20-0 lead over bama in 2012, 14-0 last year).

In the fist half against LSU, Kentucky had 23 pass plays and 17 run plays; they used 4 or 5 WRs 19 times

5 WR – 2 TIMES
4 WR – 17 TIMES
3 WR – 2 TIMES
2 WR – 2 TIMES

in the first half against bama, Ole Miss had 18 pass plays and 13 run plays. They used…

5 WR – 7 TIMES
4 WR – 6 TIMES
3 WR – 4 TIMES
2 WR – 1 TIME

they also do a lot of the same things. On a called QB run they’ll both send the RB out to get the LB to follow him and open up the middle of the field for example.

Luckily Kwons not a moron so he didn’t bite, but it is something the defense needs to look for.

Having a practice game like this just 6 days ago was a huge stroke of luck.

2. Landon Collins is fricking terrible

in this play there's 5:30 to go in the 4th, bama is up 17-10, and Collins is number 26, the free safety, the one who moves out of the WRs way while he ties the game and laughs hysterically.

Wallace didn't even pump fake or look Collins off, he just stared at Sanders the entire time and then threw it

on the winning TD a few minutes later, Collins at least got within 5 feet of the WR so that was a little better

here he is almost giving up another TD by angling the WR to the middle of the field where he had no help. that's always a good idea.

also a good idea to hedge toward the right side where there's 1 WR instead of the left where there are 3 WRs being covered by 2 CBs. he never even glances at the right side btw so I'm not sure why he was over there. maybe he just likes to run.

and here he is back peddling toward the sideline while his guy goes to the middle of the field

here he is missing an open field tackle. his hands probably hurt from doing that "damn i missed him" clap thing all day

he's back deep on the kick return late in the 4th, when bama fumbled and Ole Miss took over on the 31, and he does a neat job at running in a little circle and then going backwards instead of blocking. Im sure that was helpful

this is THE big Ole Miss win, the reason everyone is going all apeshit over them, and if bama could have traded for Jamal Adams the night before they would have won by at least 10

3.

I'm not even gonna title this section. you can determine what it means on your own.

here Ole Miss has 3 WRs stacked to the left, and one corner between them and the end zone.

it was like this for about 18 seconds. and even though the bama players have to look around those 3 WRs to see their sideline, none of them are shifting over.

even weirder, none of the bama coaches seem to notice this either.

going back to one of the Collins plays, similar thing there, with 2 DBs on 3 WRs

and then there's this, the longest pass play for bama all day.

it's basically a go route with Howard, the tight end. he starts on the 25 and ends up near the 15. it's about a 60 yard sprint, a long way for a TE. the coach should probably take him out to catch his breath.

but no. instead he's kept in and lined up on the right side to block. the play goes that way but he more or less just falls down.

at this point he's clearly limping. he should definitely come out now.

but he doesn't. instead he's lined up on the left side to block, and again they run the play to his side.

that was not a good idea. he misses his block completely and bama loses 10 yards.

one play later they have to try a field goal with a kicker who already missed his first two attempts. he does manage to hit this one, but they go up 7 instead of 11.

this is the biggest Ole Miss win in 10 years, and they barely even managed it despite bama fricking up nonstop in every way imaginable. at times it was actually kind of funny.

Well, Collins is one of the best safeties in the country, so I don't like at least one of your reasons LSU will win.

That said, LSU will win. No matter the reasons.

I predict that a change at MLB was the most significant adjustment les has made in his tenure and it will be in full display tonight.

The Beast leads the Tigers to a huge win.

Excellent bump, but the usual suspects simply pick and choose what they want to see and read
