Why did LSU lose? Was it the QB? Was it the play calling? Was it the execution? Was it Bama's superior defense? Was it the refs?

A little considered factor might be the number of wasted possessions and 3 and outs we spent in the 2nd half. Suggests a totally non-productive offense, regardless of individual stats.

both offenses were non productive in that game. the problem with LSU's was when bama finally shut down our running game in the second half we couldn't do shite about it because we can't pass nor could we catch.

Come on man. We kept the ball for almost the entire 3rd qtr. not scoring, yeah, that's a complaint. But the only 3 and out I can really complain about is in OT. Play calling was shite. That being said, if Jones catches that ball, we go into a 2nd OT tied.

Doctor: " cmon man, I kept your aunt alive for three extra hours in the ICU.....sure I forgot to plug the respirator in. Yes, I see that your complaint is valid."

Relative: "Malpractice.....lawyer"

Doctor: "Had I remembered the plug, we wouldn't be in this position. We Cool?"

I've been around the Rant for a while and your post is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.
Congratulations.

play calls were there. players just can't execute at a consistent level on offense.

quinn killed two drives in the 4th quarter with his drops on third down. if he catches one of those, LSU goes on to win.

It was the focus of the players at critical moments in the game. It was youth and emotion. It was getting suckered into personal fouls by a team that felt the game slipping away. And it was odd personnel moves offensively, like using Magee (who had done little on the ground all night) on a 1st and goal at the 6 instead of Fournette who has literally flown for 4 yards before. And then using Fournette on a 2nd and 21 in an obvious passing situation where pass blocking from the running back was likely required.

All backs are not the same and skill sets and in-game performance have to be recognized at those points in the game.

I can't get Melvin Jones dropping that pass on 3rd down out of my head with plenty of room to run in the 4th quarter which would have likely resulted in another scoring opportunity.

The team just needs to learn how to finish games by doing all of the right things and making the right decisions.

I was having fun with an otherwise pathetic post about how you were so happy with keeping the ball for the entire third quarter. But we failed to score. It's what you do to win games.

Congrats on being clueless kid.

This is the whole point behind my OP. LSU is eating clock but wasting possessions. Scoring and time of possessions together are game winners. Time of Possession dominance but little to no points being scored against an Alabama is like a 3 year old playing with matches in a fireworks factory. A "want" to win without scoring points is at best a misguided dream.

So your point basically boils down to scoring more points than the other team wins you the game?

Not exactly rocket science and I'm sure the lsu football team wants to control the time of possession and score more than the other team.

I'm thinking that you believe lsu would rather control the clock than score points or something. This thread doesn't make any sense.

Everyone knows lsu needs to score more points to win.

Agreed! IF LSU ever gets a passing game going they will be dominant and win EVERY game convincingly. Amazing how we continue to be competitive against the best teams in the country with such an inept offense. Props to Chavis and the defense for improving each and every week. They continue to keep us in every game.....

Both defenses were good. We didn't get any lucky breaks except for the fumble which if it was scoop-n-scored nobody is talking about this.

We already had one poster who was happy that we killed it in time of possession even though we didn't score.

The common thought is that Les Miles worries about time of possession and believes that points and victories will take care of themselves. Personally I think Les believes that running into the other team repeatedly is the best strategy for a victory. However defenses are better and deeper nowadays so this strategy only works on half of our schedule.
