The one we have the talent to run

We don't have a capable NT (Valentine could be, maybe) and we sure as hell don't have the LBs to run a 3-4

ETA- great username

3-4 doesn't work in college bc of the speed and versatility of offenses, just look what Ohio state dude to Oregon. Some variation of a 4-2-5 I think would work well. We'd have to play to our strength and that's the depth and talent we have at db

Valentine could play the nose. The linebackers is where it gets tough

End: Godchaux/Bain
Nose: Valentine
End: LaCouture/Herron
OLB: Bower/Feist
ILB: Garrett/Louis
ILB: Beckwith
OLB: Teuhema/Clark/Neal/Patterson

Where do guys like Debo and Duke Riley play?

We could at least disguise our lack of nose tackles by having bigger 34 ends like Bain LaCouture etc on the outside

Can Bower and Clark play well standing up?

Lots of questions but could be pulled off. If we were to switch to a 34 with the new DC hire, I would assume we would still play a good amount of 43 in the mean time as it takes a couple classes to fully transition

you say that be we have DE's that are going to end up as OLB in the NFL.

Also finding big DLs has never been a problem in Louisiana.

the only issue would be ILB.

LSU can run a hybrid 3-4/4-3 and make it work.

The one we have the talent to run is the correct answer.

Nothing wrong with a few multiple looks out if it...but right now we don't have the bodies to run a bama style 3-4 as a base defense. It would set us back to try to change.

A 3-4 lends itself to being gashed against a good running attack. As bad as we were up the middle in 2014, the 3-4 would expose that even more. The Saints are now realizing that as well.

Would go along great with the Hybrid Pro Offense that is being run now.

LSU runs a 3-4 at times on passing downs and the Mustang package is a 3-2-6. So its not completely foreign to our D. Here are some examples of this look.

We don't consistently recruit the LB position well enough to run the 3-4.

I prefer a hybrid like against UF we ran a lot of 3-4 this year with Rasco the hybrid End/Linebacker
