Yesterday's results were absolutely no shock or surprise to me at all. YES, I hoped and believed until the end that we had a real shot at pulling it off when we were handed the ball with 1:42 left in the game. However, the overall results of the game were not surprising to me in the very least. Instead the 2 biggest concerns I had for this season were realized in the face of our first real competition.

quote:

Reviewing the 2-deep really impacted my hopes for the year. It all starts on the lines... I'm not that worried about the D-line, talented youngsters come in and perform quickly all the time in the SEC. but O-line... OUCH!...

Inexperience on the O-line was a major concern I had before the season started. Of the 10 guys on the 2-deep, only 4 had ANY experience prior to this season. And only 1 was playing in the same position as last year. Our inability to run up the middle at will against lesser competition in the first 3 games was staring us in the face for anyone who looked deeply enough. YES... we broke off huge runs and had highly respectable rushing yardage, however, there was a clear inability to run up the middle at will when required.

Our losses from the 2012 team hit the O hardest where it hurts the most... on the O-line.

We all know the story on defense... 8 starters from last year drafted in the NFL. And only 2 returnees were starters in yesterday's game. We all knew this coming into the season, and it was without a doubt the greatest question mark for this 2013 LSU team (repeated over and over here and throughout ALL the media outlets before the season started).

Don't get me wrong, I am still and will remain hopeful for a GREAT 2013 season. All of the goals are still in front of this team. Although we may need a little help now with losses from the other major conference leaders.

I do NOT blame the coaching, play-calling, referees, [insert every other excuse here] for yesterday's results. To me it all boiled down to youth and inexperience.

TIME is the great healer for inexperience and youth. How much time does this team need in those 2 areas to make the necessary corrections? That is the biggest question I have.

Until we find out that answer it will still and always be... GEAUX TIGERS!!!
