1. Fraleys leg hit the corner of the plate before the tag, but in the replay the catchers leg obscures view.

2. Anytime you apply the tag at the shoulder near the head, the runner is going to get the benefit of the doubt, regardless of the foot action at the plate.

Yep. Ump can't watch both when you tag high (but we did get a little lucky)

I feel like it is actually more common to call the runner safe when this happens.

1) you really can't tell either way based off the replay. It was very close

2) yup

3) based on the rules it was illegal for him to block the plate so frick it anyway

It was very close. The view from behind is inconclusive. He had it blocked, but his foot gave way. I'm not sure if Fraley's foot pushed to the corner of the plate before the tag. You can't blame the ump no matter how he called that. The tag and the plate were too far apart to see such a close play.

If it was obstructed how do you know he touched the plate? XRAY VISION?

1. He was called safe.

2. That's all I care about.

Iffy calls happen throughout the game and they usually equal out by the end of the game. That one just happened to be in a huge spot.
