1. some people say it is a rebuilding year on the OL. we return 3/5 starters. how is that rebuilding?

2. some people say attrition has affected our OL. 4/5 spots this year were locked up without any regard to who was kicked off this team (the above-mentioned 3 returning starters and OC hebert). so attrition killed our OL b/c 1 possible starter (LG) was kicked off the team?

can somebody make sense of these 2 points that are common on this board.

All I know is I think Chris Faulk will definitely help us out here next year.

In spite of our previous troubles the o-line has improved over the last few weeks.

I think its got much more to do with Chuck bulling through the line, and sheppard having insane change of direction/vision has improved our running over the last couple of games.

chucks best runs last night he just carried people past the first down marker when there was no hole to speak of.

The big play he got hurt on was blocked pretty damn well though.

you know slow, i'm a little disappointed in the play of the offensive line, but i learned a long time ago that when your dealing with young men they have a tendency to make errors. you an many others point first to the coaches or instantly assume that they were poorly developed. i tend to put more emphasis on personally responsibility to tend or handle your assignment that you are responsibile for. it's a 50/50 situation in football.

Even though I do agree SFP is a attention seeking douche...I'll play.

There is no excuse for the underperformance of our O-line. Miles as most know is a damn former O-lineman. There is no rebuilding etc...we did not lose 4-5 lineman. Coach Stud may need to go.

hey I didn't say we played lights out, i said the o-line has improved. No we didn't run all over them, but Scott was on his way to over 100 yds rushing and the pass protection has been better - hence, improvement.

the line has improved jonboy. pass protection overall last night was excellent. the weakest lenght in our line is right guard play. herbert is getting better every week.

Rebuilding maybe in the sense that the best offensive linemen are gone. Losing Herman Johnson, Brett Helms, and Ryan Miller isn't exactly easy to fix. Granted, Ciron is back, but the new guys aren't as good as their predecessors and most of the old guys back weren't strong points on the line in the first place.

I don't understand the second one at all, though. Especially since, to my knowledge, the same starting five have played every game... and according to LSUsports.net, there are a total of eighteen linemen on the roster. "Attrition" my arse.

I'll play. Because anytime you replace starters on the o-line that line is a new line. It will not perform at its previous peak levels because it has to work in the new players. It takes experience to function as a unit. And yes, some units take longer to gell then others. The mental demands of the o-line alone dictate that some regression will occur when new players are plugged in.

there has been a lot of attrition over the last 4 years on the O-line. Just go back and look at our past 4-5 recruiting classes to see all the names that are no longer here. Guys that would be upper class men right now. The o-line is young, look at the depth chart if you have any doubts about that. Dandy Don has a depth chart and past recruiting classes on his web site which can easily be viewed.
