Looking at some videos I had posted on Youtube and came across this one I had forgotten. What a team - Hilliard, James, Martin, Risher.

A great team, just poorly coached. That team was absolutely loaded on both sides of the ball. That Nebraska game was a heart-breaker. Watching Hilliard destroy 4th ranked UF on Florida field in person and watching that defense crush Alabama from The Prince Murat (closed circuit or whatever they called it then) were among the best highlights of my LSU fan days. And the FSU fog game too. I still love that team.

Dardar owned Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

Who wore #18 on that team?

Dardar made Dave Remington look like a JV player and not the Outland Trophy winner he was.

Does anyone know if this game is online anywhere? I've only found a few highlights. I remember seeing it replayed in its entirety on the now-defunct College Sports Southeast Channel, but didn't record it. That would be a great one to re-watch

11 points from 12-0, one of best teams ever IMHO..defense loaded too, future pros all over the place... 28 pint fav vs Tulane, biggest upset loss vs spread in LSU history as far as I know...
But beat Bama bad (much worse than score) and beat at the time a very good UF team on road bad...John Bond, Reggie Regelli, Wille Gault and Juan Betanzos cost us 12-0...we we went 3-8 next year is a mystery to me...

I remember being there with my dad and the guy in front of us saying in the 1st quarter it was going to be a long season. I think at the time, they were expecting a strong defense with a terrible offense, but in practice and maybe at the beginning of the game, defense looked shaky. We soon learned the defense was solid, we just had a great offense too. I think 5 players on the defense were drafted early in '83 which was a lot at the time for LSU.

AKA the night it rained oranges.
Our season tickets were high in the south end zone. Couldn't see past the 50 yard line by the fourth quarter.

My first LSU team. Went to the season opener that year as my first game ever in Tiger Stadium as a 12 year old, and followed it up with my second being the LSU-Florida State game late in year. I'm pretty sure I cried when they lost that heart breaker to Nebraska in the Orange bowl that year.
When people ask which program I want to see LSU play and beat, it's always going to be Nebraska first. Those assholes took three essentially BCS type games from LSU in the 80's, with two of them coming in NOLA. They still deserve and arse whooping at the hands of the Tigers.
