Do you know a guy with the last name Wiggins?

Here's the post-game write-up from D1ARugby.com
Red River Weekend
quote:

LSU's hopes to rise in the D1A rankings look good following 64-12 win. Eight different players tallied tries for the Tigers on Saturday, including three by junior flanker Brennan Falcon in the first half. Through the first 40 minutes, the Tigers walked off the field up 45-0. Hooker Hunter Breit meanwhile converted all seven attempts for the Tigers. The Longhorns however did not find the scoreboard until their first try in the 55th minute, and tacked on another plus a conversion in the 68th minute.

If you're a student, hell yeah.

Though funny you say that. The current scrum half is from near Sydney. The flyhalf is Scottish. Having that experience in those two positions is really helping this team gel.

Here are the current Red River Conference standings.

LSU sits alone atop the West after winning their past 3 games by a combined score of 255-17.

Oklahoma was supposed to be the clear favorite to challenge the Tigers for the Red River crown but after last weekend's loss to a scrappy Arkansas team things are heating up for the battle for 2nd place. It's currently a three team race between OU, A&M, and Baylor at this point. Both OU and Baylor avoid the Tigers this year which may give them the edge to sneak into the Championship match. This is significant because the conference will be decided with a winner take all match between the 1st and 2nd place teams with the winner securing a playoff spot.

LSU should be able to jump in the polls after last weekend's win and in anticipation of a huge match up with top 10 opponent Arkansas State. I'll post the ranking when they're released, along with any pre-game info that I see written.

D1A Rugby Poll

As expected LSU has received a bump in the rankings following their 11th straight conference win. Since joining the Red River a year ago, LSU has yet to drop a match to conference opponents.

LSU now sits at #18 in the Canterbury D1A Top 25 days out from their meeting with #10 Arkansas State. This should be a great game. This is a non-conference game for both teams but it will give LSU a great test and experience to see what type of team they are. Due to the weakness of the Red River, non-conference wins like this will be necessary in order to raise national attention and respect.

Hardest I was ever hit was by you cocksuckers in ~96 at Home. I got slung down by my jersey and slammed my head into the ground. That big frickin Flanker BL did it. Loved him on our TRU and WEST all-star teams but not playing against him in cup matches.

Good Luck Tiger Ruggers.

Here's the except about this weekend's game from D1ARugby.com by Nick Salen.
Top 20 Teams in Non-Conference Action This Week

quote:

#10 Arkansas State vs. #18 LSU These two teams previously met in October, with the Red Wolves claiming victory over the Tigers 45-5. Since that game both squads have continued to make statements in the D1A Rankings. Arkansas State is 4-2 since that fall meeting, outscoring opponents 272-56 in those six games. Their most recent win was over in state rival Arkansas 48-15 last week. LSU meanwhile has been 6-0 and has outscored opponents 373-64. Their previous game against Texas contributed popping up two places in the Top 20.

quote:

Over the last two matches senior 8-man Todd Dupre and junior flanker Brennan Falcon have been exceptional for the purple and gold, having registered five tries each in that span. Both teams have risen in the D1A Top 20 in recent weeks, and while the Tigers have revenge on their minds, both teams have the goal of ranking higher by the end of this weekend. And with playoffs right around the corner, this could also act as a momentum and preparation motivation for both teams.

Arkansas State is the favorite coming and most around the country expect a ASU victory, especially based on the first meeting between the teams. There are a few things to consider though. That match was LSU's first of the season back in the Fall and they were without a few of star players which were unable to make the trip to Jonesboro in addition to starting a handful of debut players. This Tiger squad is a much improved team over the one that lost the first go around. If LSU can come out strong and score a couple of quick tries then I believe that LSU should be able to pull off this upset.

My (homer) score prediction. LSU 22 - ASU 18

tl;dr
The other team will lose.
Geaux Tigers! Bulawayo!

ETA: Classy move by both LSU and Texas last weekend.
A little more than a week ago Texas Tech's team captain and star flanker, Quinn Noel, passed away unexpectedly. In honor of him both LSU and UT withheld the #7 jersey from of their lineup.
quote:

“The camaraderie was remarkable. We got plenty of emails and social media posts from clubs in our conference; flowers were sent to the funeral and in a really classy way. LSU and Texas went without No. 7 jerseys in their lineup last week,” Terrigno said. “Can’t thank everyone enough for that. It means a great deal to the entire team.”

No, no admission price for today's game. All LSU rugby matches are free to attend.

I do not think that the UREC allows ice chests. Sometimes they have no problem with them, sometimes they're anal about bringing icechests. But the parking lot is right next to the fields so I'd suggest bringing it and keeping it in the car. Also alcohol is not allowed. But if it's not obviously booze then nobody will care.

It's also suggested to bring your own chairs. There is limited bleacher space. The UREC always has a new reason as to why they don't need more/better seats at the field.

Just a reminder about the location. The LSU Rugby fields are on Gourrier past Alex Box headed to towards the levee.

It's looking like there's going be a great crowd for today's match. Thanks in advance to everyone who will be out there. If you can't make it and still want to watch. Here's the Streaming Link Again

Kickoff's slated from Noon and I expect this game to live up to the hype. I'll try and keep this thread updated live with the game score and key moments.

Relentless early attack early from ASU. Still 0-0. But possession has been 90/10 in Arkansas State's favor.

LSU with a lineout from the ASU 5m line. Free kick to LSU for playing the man in the air on the lineout. LSU takes a quick tap with ASU offsides, penalty try awarded. 7-0 Tigers!

The ref is calling everything both ways. No telling what's holding on to the ball vs tackler not releasing.

Penalty conversion from 30m out good for LSU. 10-0 Tigers.

LSU was knocking on the door with 0:00 on the clock but couldn't push it over and eventually knocked it on.

10-0 lead for the Tigers at halftime.
