The schedule for this upcoming season has finally been released.

Rugby is back in action. The Tigers look to build upon their 13-1 season from a year ago. LSU comes in with a huge target on their back as the reigning Red River Conference champs. LSU has not lost a conference game since joining the Red River, and won all but one regular season game by at least 30 points. New additions to the Red River conference include Arkansas and Houston which should raise the competition level for the league.

LSU kicks off the season next Saturday in Jonesboro, Arkansas against the Arkansas State Red Wolves. ASU is one of the premier teams in college rugby with multiple international players and a full Varsity program. LSU will look to upset but after losing some key players to graduation, keeping the Red Wolves under 40 points would be a success. An underranked #7 ASU is coming off a 55-0 win over #25 Arkansas and another big 44-16 victory over a quality Lindenwood squad.

The youth for LSU may be a huge problem. They are replacing both starting props and their scrum half. Though win or lose, this experience will be vital to the team. Last season the Tigers were unprepared for the playoffs as their strength of schedule was lacking. Playing ASU should let the Tigers know every aspect where they need to improve and work on.

LSU is not ranked yet as they have not played a game to date.

Here's the schedule

The ULL/Tulane Round Robin was cancelled due to weather.

Any rugby alums that may be interested in playing in the alumni game, check out the LSU Rugby facebook page.

I'll try and keep this thread updated throughout the season with new links and scores like I did last season.

Damn. LSU Rugby has come a long way since I played a few months back around 1999.

Gotcha. No problem.

Should be a great year for the Tigers. This year one of the teams main focuses is to be more fit than any other team that they step on the field against. They're even going to be working with a pro trainer on a weekly basis to take that next step. A big change from the basic team runs and individual workouts that is typical.

LSU kicks off conference play tomorrow at 11 on their home pitch against Texas.

Kickoff is at 11 at the LSU rugby field (corner of Gourrier and River Road past Alex Box).

If you're like me and you like to see Texas schools get beat in any and every sport, come on out and watch the game.

A quick summary of the past few weeks. The loss to Arkansas State was tough. The game was knotted up at 0-0 through the first portion of the game, and only 12-0 at half. But in the second half, Arkansas State's depth and talent starting to find cracks in LSU defense allowing them to put the game well out of reach. It was LSU's first game of the year and they had by my count 12 guys with playing time who had their first experience playing A-side. The loss really helped with seeing where the team is and what they need to do to compete at that top tier.

The following week was the Alumni game. Those young-uns beat us old folk pretty bad. After playing against this team, wow, they have some speed in the backs. I know there are plenty of alum who lurk/post here, so a shout out to all of you who came out to play.

Last weekend on a cold Friday night LSU took on the Baton Rouge Men's Club. It was a good win 34-14 which gave LSU some vital experience against a team that plays a power style of rugby.

LSU hosts Texas this Saturday. Watching LSU beat Texas is a great way to spend the bye week.

Awesome info!

As a former rugger it is great to see the huge strides the program has taken over the years.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

A good fullback can hide deficiencies at any other position in the team. IMO, it's the most important position on the field and it isn't close.

I don't think the UREC allows ice chests, which makes no sense because they offer no alternative. So just bring it anyways and keep it in the car. Don't walk around anything that's obviously alcohol (like cans or bottles) and the UREC shouldn't be a problem.

I played for Vanderbilt during the old days of SEC rugby. Being from New Orleans I had several friends who played for LSU in the late 80's/early 90's. Great group of guys. Those were always hard fought matches and usually decided the SEC champ. Good luck this weekend and geaux Tigers!!!

Got here late. Slow start for the Tigers. 12-0 LSU 10 minutes to go in the first half after LSU capitalizes on a Longhorn miscue.

And before I can post, LSU scores again. 17-0 Tigers.

Missed penalty kick at 0 on the clock. Remains 17-0 LSU at the half.
