Louisiana Tigers
Overwhelm Y.M.G.C.
41-0, in a game that was very short and one in which Doc Fenton was the go to player.
LSU played 17 men in the game vs YMGC's 12.
Just think in todays game LSU averages 52+ a game.
Also standing out in the game for LSU that day was Lally, R.L. Stovall and Seip.
I do have a near play by play of this and all the 1908 games.

I still think LSU should acknowledge the 1908 team as National Champions!! Show some respect for Doc Fenton and his teammates!!

Yes I'm working on a book on the 1908 season, but I still have to get to Vanderbilt, Auburn, New Orleans, LSU.
Ie it will take sometime due the Vandy trip.

manwich,
Believe it or not LSU is the only team I know that does not claim the older championship.
USC and Bama are the two that claim the most liberal view of the championships.
USC claims 11 of which 1 (1939) is a joke, and 3 others are weak claims at best.
Notre Dame claims it share of its older titles, as does Michigan and Ohio State.
And you see the joke Ole Miss has tried to pull off (3 claims of which only one has a strong case, the other two are jokes), that is near everyone in todays world.

With the predeliction of folks on this site to use initials, I suppose that everyone else but me knows what the heck Y.M.G.C. is/was. I assume from the context that it was some alleged football power at the time.

YMGC is indeed a very old reference. It's the New Orleans Young Mens Gymnastic Club, which was the precursor to the New Orleans Athletic Club.
