Knowing that LSU would not keep Sean employed through signing day, why did they bother to hire him if the intent was to help recruit Shea? Seems unlikely that they would have hired him on merit alone. I just don't get the strategy.

Pretty good question actually.

We hired him bc he's a good coach.
OM hired him to lure his brother.

However you need to spin it I suppose.

Obviously Sean is getting something at Ole Miss that he wasn't getting from LSU. What that is, who knows. My guess is that he will be an "on the field" coach for Ole Miss and LSU couldn't promise that.

He was rumored to make really good coffee and was said to be great at drawing scout team plays big enough for the whole huddle to see.

We hired him to try to lure his brother. His brother wanted ole miss... so brother leaves for ole miss job where younger brother wanted to play.
case closed. we did everything to get him but he did not want to come here.

ole miss offered a real paying job to brother. they also didn't have franks in this class. they also didn't have harris ready to take over for up to 3 years.

Maybe that's all there is to it...just hard to accept that someone would actually prefer Ole Miss over LSU.

Yeah, right.

We took a gamble. It didn't work. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I am just glad that this didn't go down to NSD as these things are prone to do.

If you guys can figure out how to pin this on Javi, let me know. I'll be tweet spamming T-Bob for the real 1/9 scoop.

Has to do with the type of job Sean is getting at OM. A real paying one. We had him for a year and apparently that year hasn't gone very well(according to rumor but who knows) and a real paying gig was not an option here. Honestly don't think we hired him for Shea. He sought us out for obvious reasons(the family is in LA and we are LSU not OM)and Cam liked the kids talent as a rising coach so he brought him on. No risk in it especially considering the fact that Shea is his brother. It didn't work out.

I personally have changed my stance on the entire Shea ordeal based on all the evidence and some things coming from the OM side. Think the open depth chart is the biggest factor for Shea going to OM. Not his brother, not any hatred for LSU or anything else. System and depth chart. Actually think Sean is following Shea not the other way around. Shea is the prize. So I don't think OM hired Sean for Shea. Shea was going anyway. They just helped Sean in the process to seal the deal

Now to argue why I don't think we hired Sean for Shea. If that were the case and Shea was our guy then why the obvious choice if Franks over Shea? If Shea was the prize for hiring Sean then the staff wouldn't have pressed Franks so hard and waited so long to offer Shea. Shea was the bonus not the prize. Sean was hired in his own merits and really was a no lose situation. Didn't cost us anything. Franks was our guy not Shea and we got him. Shea was a plus 1. Simple as that imo

Well, I'm not in the know or anything, but having him sit with their DC to set up a gameplan isn't a comforting feeling.

Lord knows game planning LSU is not a very difficult task, but they will be privy to even those things that we wanted to do.

Without Shea's commitment, the hire truly makes no sense.

I'm willing to listen to possible theories that do make sense. Maybe we hedged a bet, and made an informed decision from knowledge we gained this past year?

My problem with accepting that theory is that we have been so inept at making good QB related decisions.
