Why did Coach O choose not to have a July Camp or BBQ?

We always have some recruiting event in July right before the season starts.

Bama, FSU, Texas, Ohio State, Florida, A&M ... I mean pretty much everyone is having these big time commits come in for some event before they start their senior year except LSU.

Not sure what this new strategy is.

Well we had the elite camp and other big time prospects visiting. I know this weekend or next one the visiting list is full. Staff knows what they're doing

They were limited to 10 days of camps and used them in June.

Also it seems like O likes to focus on small gatherings so the prospects can get a lot of attention and a family feel.

Lsu has traditionally had the 2 Junior days in spring (Boys from the Boot and national junior day) and camps.

I bet you see the high priority prospects come in for practices starting with next week. With the majority of the spots filled I bet LSU really narrows their focus.

They're still bringing in big targets. Noah Cain visited. I think Justin Watkins was supposed to visit yesterday, don't know if that happened.

Pat Surtain Jr is visiting tomorrow. LINK

O only knows how to make gumbo, not BBQ sauce.

Trust in O's recruiting process

I can't believe this thread has made it this far without anyone saying it's because Coach Studrawa left and took the barbecue rub recipe with him...

It was posted earlier this week by a reporter that the old BBQ events were a tactic used by Les Miles and having multiple elite recruiting camps seperating different types of players from one another.

Ed figured to not want that approach as July is a busy time for most recruits with Nike The Opening camps and other elite camps that recruits want to go to as well. So he used July as a time to have unofficial visits and spend time with the elite players he really wanted to sit down with. LINK

Look around the mid to bottom of the article the same question was asked. Should answer your question.

Unfortunately, this very rational explanation does not fit with section225's agenda.
