What Position will Chattman Play?

LSU is in dire need to get a Linebacker of any sort on the board for 2016, and most have indicated the Chattman will eventually play OLB for LSU. However from what I am hearing, that appears to be a bit of a stretch. He is very long and lean at 6'5" 175-185 lbs with great speed and ball skills. It just appears that with his ball skills and talent that he is best suited to play free safety. However there is so much more competition at that position, and with LSU being able to grow elite DB's off trees he may never get significant playing time there.
What position do you think Chattman plays in the end?

OLB
Agree. He's similar in size to Mingo at the same stage. Mingo weighed less than 200 lbs his junior season in HS. Possible R/S scenario which is what Barkevious used to pack on around 15 lbs of muscle before adding another 15 or so by his R/S Jr. season.

Could play a variety of positions....
Looking atleast 2, more than likely 3-4 years down the road, he could be a guy you just want on the field.
All depends on how the staff sees best to use him. As a pass rush specialist, hybrid OLB/Safety that can roam the field and be a weapon.
From the high school level to the pros, having 2-3 guys like this on a defense can be very beneficial, but you obviously don't want a lot of situational players.
Who knows though, its all speculation, like Mingo he could grow into an everydown OLB.

OLB.
Most likely a redshirt to add weight.

I could see them burning the redshirt for him to play special teams.

Who is the last 6'5" DB that you can remember? You just aren't going to have the hips and explosion for it at that size. He will be a 4-3 end or OLB in a 3-4.

I'll believe it when I see it.

FWIW, I was looking on his 247 page and it shows his twitter posts. He posted this pic

But watching his film, he can really hit. Would love to see him put on weight and play OLB

As mentioned, Chris Carrier was every bit of 6'4" or taller and more recently, Tharold Simon was in the 6'4" range as well. I still believe this youngster will beef up to around 220-225# by his RS soph year like Mingo. Probably wind up in the 240# range by the time he's an upper classman, much like Mingo.

Still think Chattman plays OLB for us, though.

Guys, he's a LB all the way for us. The coaches aren't even listing him on the DB recruiting board. We will pack weight on him and he will be an OLB

Here is my question, if he is sold on playing Safety does the staff let him?

Not exactly, Urlacher played a hybrid position in a 3-3-5 scheme. Basically, he was a drop linebacker.
