Is bigger than ever know with Garrett gone. Landing KJ will provide a LB who can start in 2016. We need KJ more than any other recruit for 2016 and nobody will tell me otherwise.

As good as he might be, I doubt he will be ready to start in the SEC at mike backer as a freshman.

We'll play 5 DL's and 6 DB's in 2017. It'll revolutionize the sport!!

The funny thing is that we could probably get away with that.

You wouldn't believe how many are contending that Lawrence or Allen are more important recruits, and how many have this diluted mentality that if you take care of the Dline in the middle the the rest will take care of itself

Well having monsters on the dline makes life a lot easier for the lbers filling holes and what not. Lord knows the back end of the defense will hold down its end

But yeah.. Getting Joyner, Divinity, maybe convincing Devin White to play lber, and snagging a few of the Texas kids (Fowler, McCullough) is all the sudden one of the biggest needs for this class. I have faith in Steele. Especially if Beckwith comes out balling and gets himself in a position to be drafted highly

What's killing me is all of these LB threads with the "all of a sudden" code red speak. Like we didn't know this was an extreme need. Shows you how many knee jerk reactions are out there.

Those of us who watch LSU football knew that Garrett played literally 2-3 snaps in the spring game. He wasn't going to make any impact on depth chart. Could have gotten better over the course of a season.....yes!!!

But if we weren't selling this to kids already. Never mind I know this staff is going balls to the wall kamikaze style recruiting.

You mean how football actually works, with a dline that can occupy blockers and not allow linemen to get to the second level?

It all starts up front. And nobody cares if you refuse to believe otherwise.

Just because it starts upfront does not mean you don't need quality OLB's with major talent. Ppl talk about it like it doesn't matter who you put out there. Kwon Alexander was LSU's most valuable player last year...he made plays to keep the Defense elite despite poor to mediocre play from Dline last year. I hope that you watched LSU play last year. If you did then you would know how much the LB's and DB's carried the D last year. What I am saying it is an overly simplistic way of looking at things.

Devon White wants to play Lber. He's said it himself in a recent interview. He said the only school looking at him though was Bama for Lber. He said RbS aren't making the money in the draft I wouldn't mind him at Lber and RB We need him. Stud

Yeah exactly with good db and lb we stil got dominated by teams so obviously you need that dline stable first before anything

Wrong his first choice is RB... LSU is also recruiting him at RB but said he doesn't mind helping a team out if they need him at line backer. He was asked about two weeks ago if a school was recruiting him at RB or LBER which would he choose and he said RB.

While I want Joyner, he is not going to help us at MLB or ILB (depending on how much 3-4 we go to).

We need to pick up a JUCO ILB for next year. Maybe we could convince Garrett to come back, the guy we let get away to Ole Miss, or somebody else.

Keion Joyner doesn't help replace Garrett much at all. A player's main contribution comes in his last two years with the program. In Joyner's first year he will be a special teams player. Maybe Joyner's second year will help replace Garrett's expected senior year, but as we saw with Beckwith and Minter, they are often not ready until their second year is half over.

We can recruit the hell out of LBs this year, but we need jucos to cover the recruiting screwups at LB.

An overly simplistic way of looking at this thread would be realizing that no one player would completely address the needs of this class anyway, so it's wrong in more ways than one.

Problem is that Garrett wouldn't have helped much. After seeing Shea's post on Garrett, the litany of issues that came with him was just too much and he probably wouldn't have made much of an impact.

Garrett would have been our #3 MLB this year and #2 next year with Feist starting.

Also, Beckwith would have been ready at the start of his second year if Chavis had gotten his own head out of his own arse

It is a team sport. Remember how everyone felt before Beck too over for DJ. I think we will get the needed LBs but line, backers, d backs are all necessary for a top flight defense
