For purposes of disclosure, it has been a long time since I have posted on this board. Normally, I am not inclined to post here, but would best be described as a passionate fan and observer of all things pertaining to LSU sports.

Watching the dysfunctional Collins announcement last night on ESPN I was left with a sense of great pride in being a LSU Tiger. I take great pride in our coaches, players and LSU as a whole. With specific reference to LSU (and LSU only), Les Miles and his staff do (1) a fantastic job in evaluating talent (2) recruiting good kids (3) developing the kids recruited (4) instilling a sense of program/family (5) winning ball games and (6) supporting the player’s education.

Les Miles and Nick Saban are men with different styles and personality traits that make each extremely successful. Recruits ultimately find something in these men and their staffs that tip their decision to favor one school over the other. No different in the Collins decision. It is a bummer that the top rated kid in Louisiana chose Bama, but it happens. LSU not only survived, but has prospered following the loss of other top recruits such as Joe McKnight and Trovon Reed.

I think the unfortunate thing is that Collins’ decision was likely made a long time ago and the kid leveraged the intense competition between the schools to heighten the spotlight on his “moment.”
I don’t ever remember a LSU recruit expressing his commitment in the manner or fashion that Collins chose. Ultimately, the manner in which he chose to handle his commitment serves to tell you more about Collins, rather than portray LSU as the loser in this sweepstakes. He is a physically gifted ball player, but history clearly shows that the LSU program will move forward successfully without the silver gloved one.

A couple of thoughts for the Tiger supporters:
1. Stop posting comments hating on the girlfriend as it is classless to do so. As a parent, you wouldn’t want someone referring to your child with some of the disgusting comments made toward the girlfriend.
2. Stop hating on Collins. The kid made his decision and while we may all be disappointed he didn’t stay within the confines of “the boot”, he is gone. Time to move on. It is his decision, he made it. I don’t wish him well or ill will. It only serves to heighten my support (if possible) of LSU.
3. While I appreciate Collins’ mom’s honesty in her expression of support for LSU and Louisiana, she needs to support her son too. The decision was a tough pill to swallow for her, but the level of support demonstrated for her son on national television did not reflect well on her. As a LSU fan, I loved it. As a parent, I found it poor.

In sum, time to move on. There are bigger things at stake on Monday night. Geaux Tigers!

Hating a kid for leaving La. is just stupid. LSU has been pillaging other states for years and we have some big time OOS guys this year, including the #1 QB in the country.

Well written. I agree on most points you made. Unlike many I say let him go and am not interested in him being a Tiger.

Then it is settled…no more talk of treasoness recruits….we focus on kicking @ss Monday night and then putting the finishing touches on another “strong” class.

Well said.
We are blessed to cheer for a school and program whose future will never be decided by one recruit.... No matter how big that recruit is.

Agreed, good post, our team is a class act and we the fans have so much to be proud of, this kids decision is nothing in regards to who we are and what we are. We are LSU, our team is number 1. and I don't see us letting up on greatness one bit.

That's good and all, but on Ponamsky's show earlier today, he said Collins called Miles yesterday and told him he was coming to LSU. IMO, he deserves the bs coming to him

You should probably try to keep from believing recruiting rumors as gospel. There were too many about this one recruit to keep up with.

Great post! Loved it - and so true about the whole announcement thing. I was pissed at first, but after thinking about it and watching it again, I almost pitied him and his family. What should have been a shining moment in his life just fell flat.

He could have handled it better by being up front from the beginning. If he knew he was going to Bama months ago, he should have said so. It's all about the spotlight but it dimmed mighty fast last night.

So, with that said, it is time to move on. We have so much to look forward to. Our glass is HALF FULL and not HALF EMPTY.

This is why I don't want to ever see him in an LSU uniform. I really hope Miles does not make a at home visit with this guy to try to get him to switch. If that happens, I will pull for LSU but hope this guy would never play a down. Last night was the final nail for me regarding following recruiting. It's a shameful spectacle and I refuse to be a part of it any way. I will check who signed with LSU after signing day and move from there.

Well written post. I think what stings a bit is not that he chose another school, but that he chose "that school". Gunner Kiel is not going to play against Notre Dame or Indiana (most likely). So, for LC to lead LSU on then drop the bomb on national TV that he was going to our fiercest rival just shows he is young.

We LSU fans are very spoiled, most state school's watch top state high school kids run off to the big names (like LSU) all the time.

If I had the choice between GK or LC, I'd take GK all day. LSU never has an issue finding defensive talent, but we do have trouble finding a star QB.

We have a great class, let's get Howard now.

Although I support everything you said, i can see how if you live in La. and are a tiger supporter, which means you hate Bama, that you could be happy your son is going to play against your team against your wishes. It shows a lack of respect for his parents, esp. the way it was done. He deserves all he gets. I felt sorry for him because things will never be the same with his family. The damage has been done and his time in the spotlight was tainted last night. I have never seen this before, so i'm sure mom was lied to. I've seen that look before and he knew it as he was saying it. You make your bed, you lay in it. Something his mom should have told him before so he wasn't surprised by her reaction. I'm with you LC's mom.

But I'm not a parent. I'll stop from expanding anymore on my thoughts on her due to the above sticky.

But I will say it's always bugged me when people refer to these 17 & 18 year olds as kids. That's whats wrong with this country we baby people to much. 18 is legally, physically and mentally an adult.

I don't know about you guys but even when I was 17 which isn't legally an adult I never thought of myself as a kid. I was mature at that age as are most people whom aren't idiots.

You gotta wonder about a kid who doesn't take the advise of parents/guardians and instead chooses to make specatcle of going against what they wanted.

I wonder how that'll work out when LC chooses to not do what his new dictator boss wants?
