Are these guys killing it on the recruiting trail or what? Let's hope they can coach as well, but losing Chavis is looking more like a blessing! Thoughts?

Well seeing as how A&M lost two guys to Texas today, I'd say that he's picking up right where he left off. Good defensive mind, too fricking lazy to do shite on the recruiting trail. I've been pleasantly surprised by what we've seen so far from O and Steele, hopefully the momentum keeps snowballing come August

Don't get me wrong, defense is important, but it sure seems offense is where you have to be elite in today's CFB. Even the best defenses seem to give up a lot of yards and points more often than in the past. My thinking is, With the players we get, as long as we can have better than average quarter back play and top defensive recruits continually in the pipeline, coach Steele and O should have great success no matter what questions exist swirling about their past coaching stops. They could essentially rewrite history. This hire is looking better and better to me.

This late in the game, I expected some flash, but no substance. If these cats can close the deal with Tega, CeCe, Lewis - the revolution can start now. The hire is looking much better - but we haven't seen a game yet.

All the great recruits in the world can't win a game all by themselves - otherwise it would be Bama versus USCw every year.

Definitely doing whatever is possible short time recruiting.
Hope it translates to a bad a-- dominating defense moving forward. If nothing else, we will not be starting or playing games looking like we are going through the motions. We might make mistakes but our play will probably be balls to the walls attacking.
Now if MILES and his Best Friend Camerson can ever get their act together with the QB and offense, we might have a shot to compete for a playoff spot.

Booger said "players make plays not schemes" after Steele was hired. I don't know if I agree with that 100%, but there's a lot of truth to it. And so far, because of the recruiting bumps we've gotten over such a short time with O and Steele added to the mix, it would seem that the two hires have been strongly positive. If Steele is a halfway decent play caller and we continue recruiting at this pace, we could have a scary good team in the coming years.

I really believe they were brought here to have our D playing with more awareness and technique, while being aggressive. Also to beef up the front 7, no matter what it was time for Chavis to go. He was flat here at LSU and they played like it. For example I believe O and Steel would have had Beckwith out there at the end of last year. I also think coach O and steel will play everyone with a good rotation and in situations to their strengths. Of course you leave the guys that can do everything well on the field for most of ya plan but you also say ok when the opportunity arises I can put "Feist" in and let the other guys catch a breath. Same for the Dline, I never understood why we didn't rotate our big boys? When I saw them in the game Gilmore for example I surely didn't see him being pushed around at all, he didn't get much penetration but they didn't move him an inch. You have to give these guys a chance a fair chance to play and most of the time they respond and sometimes take over!!! This is what Coach O will do. Can't wait to see it either. GT

TAMU's DB depth is shitty and they still can't land any of the top CB prospects. Reality is going to hit the Ags on NSD that they aren't paying Chavis $1.7 mil for his recruiting abilities.

This is where it's at. The top teams get the top recruits, but the difference is the coaching and utilization of those players. I'm as excited as anybody with the recruiting but it will be telling when this staff is matching talent and coaching wits with the other top programs.

It's funny because most of the moron aggie fans that are beating their chests don't even understand his scheme. It's called "line up superior talent in man coverage and don't let them do anything too stupid".

Just look at how good his defenses were at LSU when the talent was down even a little bit, it's going to be very interesting seeing how good his defenses are when he doesn't have 4 years of top 3 defensive recruiting classes to fall back on. I'm seeing a 50th-60th ranked defense in A&M's near future

And maybe we can get 60 minutes from the D coordinator now instead of the usual 58 mins.
