With the Saints recently signing Marcus Ball, it reminded me of the talent that Stephenson HS had on its Defensive front 7 that year.

Marcus Ball was the highest rated out of the bunch. He signed with FSU, but ended up at JUCO and then at Memphis. He wasn't drafted but now he has joined his former teammates as an NFLer.

Jermaine Cunningham signed to UF and after a solid career there, was drafted by the Patriots in the 2nd RD, #53 in 2010. After a decent rookie season, he was cut in 2012 and has since been with the 49ers and now Jets.

Perry Riley as y'all know signed with LSU and had a solid career. He was drafted in 2010 by the Redskins in the 4th RD, #103. He has since had a good start to his NFL career and started last year. Now with London Fletcher gone, he will be the key piece in the Redskin LB corps.

Kelvin Sheppard also signed to LSU and had a really good career. He was drafted in 2011 by the Bills in the 3rd RD, #68. He had a very solid two years there, but was traded for Jerry Hughes to the Colts. Last season with the Colts, he had an average year as a backup.

Bruce Irvin was attending Stephenson but left school his JR year and got his GED. He attended JUCO and then WVU where he had a really good year. He was drafted in 2012 by the Seahawks in the 1st RD, #15. He has since been a key rotational piece as a rush LB in their defense.

Kelechi Ordu was another player on that defense that signed with Tennessee Tech and was a key piece his JR and SR years, and won Tenn. Tech's "Man of the Year" in 2011. No other info on whether or not he has played anywhere since.

Pretty remarkable that a HS had this much talent on a single defense. And although Irvin didn't play that year, the others are an amazing amount of talent.

I was thinking about this the other day. Andre Anderson from Tulane (a really good RB for them) graduated with Ball, Cunningham, Riley, and Sheppard.

I said in a thread the other day that no one school can really claim a Stone Mountain pipeline because at one point it seemed like every school in the combined SEC/ACC footprint had at least one kid from there.

Donald Glover of Community and Childish Gambino is from there also, but that's not really important to this thread.

Even women's basketball managed to get a player from that school.

I assume they were state champs? I remember sheppard saying he played in the GA dome a few times in high school.

They actually lost to the eventual champ, Lowndes, 14-0 in the semi-final.

Yet in rantards glory they weren't high on Riley or Sheppard. Funny how those two turned out to be the best lbs under Miles. Ahh a 3* from ga, wtf?

Nope and probably never will be. They get out coached all the time in the playoffs. They tend to usually lose in the 2nd or 3rd round.

unless we're factoring in pro success, there's another Atlanta-area LB that might take issue with that statement.

I dont think Perry Riley played hardly any defense in hs. All of his highlights were at RB.

Formed arguably the nation’s most intimidating linebacking core with teammate Marcus Ball and LSU teammate Kelvin Sheppard ... Member of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Top 50 for Georgia and the Mobile Register Super Southeast 120 in 2005 ... Racked up 96 tackles, eight sacks and five forced fumbles in 2004

And of course they had to misspell LB "corps".

Maybe they meant they were the core of the corps

Damn, if all those cats were together on that Stephenson team, who was on this Lowndes team that beat'em?

That's nothing compared to SW Dekalb high, I believe 1995. They had over 20 kids sign D-1 scholarships. It was the class that Quincy Carter was in.

yeah those SWD mid 90s teams were really talented. Dinardo even got a DL from SWD, I forget his name, but he didn't qualify for a few yrs and I think eventually played sparingly for Saban. SWD even had a punter off that team make it to the NFL.
