I still say Naz reminds me a lot of Boogie Cousins. He isn't the most athletic big guy in the world but he has a nice jumper, can put the ball on the floor, and he has a large frame that he uses to bully people around under the basket. I think even though he's already a five-star he may actually be underrated by many scouts.

He compares well to Brandon Bass. Very physical, unselfish player, has a mid range jumper, ball handling skills need polishing , can block shots.

He's probably just slightly bigger than Bass. Combine Reid with Bigby-Williams and LSU will have some significant size in the frontcourt

Reminds me of Johnny O'Bryant, both in style and appearance.

Saw Will Wade tonight at a dinner for a friend. Asked what were LSU's chances of landing Reid and he gives a big smile. Then he says we will find out this week. I said you wouldn't be smiling if it weren't good news. He said nope.

Great guy and very personable. Says LSU fans are very passionate about baseball and football and wants to bring it back to the basketball program.

I thought the same thing. We could use a guy like that.

Maybe appearance, but I don't see the style comparisons. He's got much more of an outside game than JOB. If he has anything close to JOB's post game, he'll be a monster.

from the looks of it, he needs to work on developing strength and conditioning.... good range with the jumper for a big guy, but ball handling needs work too

I don't see that at all

Well, that clearly means that any coach that recruits well is going to suck.

Uh, what? I know that people have seemingly erased everything positive from Jones time here, but he absolutely was a very good recruiter. Had no business getting Jarrell Martin and Jordan Mickey for his first full class.

Very good is a little misleading. If he was very good, Wade wouldn't have been left with a roster full of guys he felt he needed to cut.

The positives with Johnny is he knew how to play the recruiting game, he knew how to get Simmons, and thus Blakeney. He played up the connections to get Mickey and convinced Martin to stay home. Quarterman was considered a big land from GA.

On the other end, he was either pretty much boom or bust when it came to recruiting. He either got what could be or is a really good player or basically a non contributor/bad to mediocre player. Not a lot of gray area.

When Wade came in he saw right away Jenkins, Patterson, ER III and Hayward were just roster dead weight. Guys who couldn't play or be coached on this kind of level.

All is well and good to land some really good players, but you have to get capable role players too, and that's something Johnny really kind of lacked the ability to do.

I don't know if that is completely fair or true. He was able to get Hornsby in as a transfer. Patterson was a big contributor is Freshman year and though he turned out to be a huge bust, Robinson was a top 60 recruit coming out of HS. A lot of good programs recruited him.

You have to have defined roles for role players to succeed. LSU under Jones had no such thing. Once everyone stepped on the court it was essentially 5 guys left to do their own thing

I think the big difference here that most are missing is the fact that when Johnny came in, his recruiting was the known quantity for the most part; but it was his actual coaching that was questionable, and that was proved to be his greatest downfall.

Will Wade is the opposite. He is already known to be a very good, if not great, X's and O's coach and motivator. It is his recruiting prowess that people were unsure of based on the programs he has been in and the fact he never had a knock you in the face recruiting class. However, now that he is already making a name for himself and showing to be very adept at recruiting here at LSU (now that he has the resources to), is why people are so enamored with him and excited for the future. Of course he has to coach a game first, but most fans believe we have finally found a coach that can bring in the talent and coach it!

TLDR version:
JJ: known recruiter + questionable coaching ability = bad coach and fired

WW: unsure recruiting ability (looking very positive early) + known good to great coaching ability = hype and positive outlook on program

While I agree, if Wade thought Hayward, Patterson, ER III and Jenkins could contribute, he wouldn't have cut them. There was a severe talent/coachability depth issue when he arrived and he addressed it.

Obviously not but he's ranked by almost every recruiting service between 18 and 25 in the country. I think he is deserving of a top 10 spot. I wouldn't go as high as top 5 because of how great the 2018 class is at the top but top 6-10 seems about right for him.

Exactly.

So he's taken the one "maybe weakness" people suspected and turned it into a MASSIVE strength.

My prediction, this guy will be at a blue blood in 5 years after having great success here on and off the court. He will completely revamp the program with better facilities, better players, and better fan support ($$).

frick yea.
